OK...I can see that.?.? Not saying you feel that way.....

But it's not 1968.....it's 2008! Get the best coach. Who cares what color or who he's married to. This is why I would love to get out of coaching and get into the AD business. Does it really take a rocket scientist??? Obviously not at some places!:)

I am so sick of this racism crap. If a coach doesn't get hired unless he is black it is racism. Who gives a dayem about a person's skin color, We wanted a coach who could win no matter what color he was. God made us all. Charles Barkley is a big mouth and a racist. I'm glad Lebron James told him to shut up!

Basically said Auburn was racist....Something along the lines of there hire was based on color.

I'm honestly getting sick of all the race stuff. It is getting quite stupid. I have a lot of black friends and am by no mean racist, but damn. We have a black president now and some black coaches in college and NFL, so get over it.

I seriously doubt that AU made a conscious decision not to hire someone over skin color, or the skincolor of said person's spouse, but it does look suspicious to those who want to see such motives and you can bet that every other program in the region will use this as a negative recruiting chit for as long as they can.

The real point is simple....

Gill was a better hire for AU or UT than what they got. Kiffin has his father and connections in the business. Fine....I like Kiffin and I think he will be great, but Auburn screwed up! Gill would have been perfect.

I never said he was not hired because of color, but it would have been a perfect hire BECAUSE of TALENT ......and color.

peay, I am not disagreeing with you at all but Chizik supposedly had the blessing of Pat Dye as a former AU assistant and SEC player. Apparently, that carries alot of weight on the Plains these days.

Auburn would have been better off going after Kelly or Paterson then Chizik. The man they hired is better off being a DC then a head coach and his track record proves that. I give Auburn the bonehead hire of the year, there is not even a close second.

I understand....and I'm not a minority!
But, one of these days, a high profile football university in the deep south, will hire a black coach. It will make NATIONAL headlines and thrust that program into tons of recruits minds. Lets not think for a minute the school will do it for the "social" thing to do. It will be done to garner recruits! That is not a bad thing. All schools want the best players and the most recognition. But that ONE hire could turn things around for the program and minority coaches across the country! That would be a great thing for everyone!

If I was Gill I would have got on the same plane Petrino did and headed back to Buffalo.

I think it would be good for the NCAA but I don't know how much it would change for other minority coaches. Keep in mind that Ty Willingham coached ND recently. He was a terrible coach but his hiring did not help other minority coaches. In fact, his poor results might have set minority coaches back a few steps. Whoever can relate to the players the best while teaching the game and instilling discipline in the players should get the job. Turner Gill will land a high profile job soon and then the only thing to judge him by will be his win/loss record.

All the Aubies I know are mad, confused, and totally depressed over the whole affair. Most didn't want Tubbs fired to begin with and now this debacle. If this thread was posted on the Auburn site no one would vote against our hire.

Let's face facts folks. Auburn made the worst hire in the history of college football. Bobby Lowder is out of his mind (what else is new?) and Auburn will struggle mightily for a long time. Of course Lowder can always fire somebody else and not take the blame (again, what else is new?) GO VOLS!!!!!

Chizik may be the worst Auburn hire since Doug Barfield--he may not last 3 years. Lowder will quickly get tired of more losses and buy him out.
