Who is this PG?

Let's look at the 3 games he played the most minutes in his college career and see how he did...

2/2/13 vs. Arkansas
Lost 70-63
Stat Line: 17mins 0pts 0rbd 0ast 2to 0-1fg

1/4/13 vs. Memphis
Lost 85-80
Stat Line: 14mins 0pts 0rbd 2ast 2stl 0tos 0-2fg

12/29/12 vs. Cavier
Win 51-47
Stat Line: 13mins 2pts 2rbd 1ast 0tos 1-2fg

Combined numbers against quality opponents in which he played double digit minutes...

Record: 1-2

Stats: 44mins 2pts 2rbd 3ast 2tos 1-5fg

You be the judge...

If Rick Byrd had been coach those numbers would have been much better!

Wanna bet that doesn't happen?
Never say never! Redshirt senior Jacob Gilliam, a walk-on from Knoxville, made waves this spring as the Vols’ first-team left tackle. It would be very surprising, however, if Gilliam (who has played in three career games during his four years at UT) ends up winning a starting job. Highly touted JuCo transfer Dontavius Blair, who was inconsistent at times during the spring, should still end up being the Vols’ starting left tackle.
GUESS WHAT! BUTCH JONES JUST PUT HIM ON SCHOLARSHIP!

CBJ has 85 scholarships to give out. CDT has 13. A football coach can take a gamble more easily than a bb coach. Gilliam has worked hard and has improved, but if he is our starting OT then it will be a long year for the Vols.

He beat the JUCO out in spring practice. Likewise, he is a Knoxville walk-on. That's usually the only way they stay. They can live at home. Hope you're not saying there is no basketball talent in Knoxville good enough to start at UT. That seems to be BTO's position.

What about the walkons who didn't get placed on scholarship?

This guy gets a new topic and drives it home with the same copy and paste 50 times before moving on to his next obsession.

This poster will conveniently brush aside the fact that extra scholarships have opened up on the football team and thus leaving some for walkons.

The fact you're even having to explain that there's 85 scholarships in football compared to 13 in basketball should be evidence enough that this guy is stuck in the 30's

That seems to be my position? Not at all DA, my position is Lopez won't be on scholarship and won't play meaningful minutes for Tennessee next season.

Would you like to place a wager, surely with such an impressive career resume you've got some loose change lying around.

You realize not a single person in this thread agrees with you right, that should tell you something.

The fact is that in spite of all your blustering and meandering, as of 5-10-2014, Brandon Lopez is the only true point guard on the Tennessee roster.

The only way Lopez should end up on scholarship is if Tyndall doesn't give them all out this season and wants to generate some good publicity by rewarding him. Football coaches do it all the time when they have extras available. However, he shouldn't be placed on there otherwise unless the coach feels he's earned it over a player whom he might be recruiting.

If Lopez is getting pg minutes, then we are in trouble. Does that mean he is a bad guy or bad student? NO!!!
But what is does indicate is that Knoxville is not a hotbed for D1 bb prospects. Have there been D1 players from Knoxville? Yes
Just because you are the best in Knoxville does not mean you played against top HS talent.

And guess what, our first game isn't for another 5 months.

Tyndall said he was gonna sign 2 PGs if Thompson is gone, as you like to say, I'll trust DT.

Absolutely, and I've said I have no issue if that's the case. However Tyndall is not handing Lopez a scholarship tonight and saying you're my PG, let's go to work, as this guy seems to be suggesting.

If you include the games he didn't play he actually only averaged about 7mpg, so good one. Weren't you guaranteeing us all though how he would be getting 15+ minutes and his minutes were gonna go up, not down from last year?
Stop making crap up for the sake of your argument. I said he would be getting anywhere from 12-15 mpg and I wasn't "guaranteeing you all", I was making a bet with you that Reese would get more PT than Hubbs, and oh look that ended up being true thanks to Hubbs' injury. You get so butthurt so quickly, that's why everyone likes trolling your ass because you're a baby on these forums, great information but still. Just trying to have a conversation about a player and you get all personal. Let's see, if you didn't include games where he DNP, he averaged 11.75mpg.. Pretty close to my 12mpg projection.

Didn't you also say you could see Reese transferring at the start of the season? And now you're saying he would transfer before his senior year lol?

Putting words in my mouth which you have a penchant for. The only thing I am saying is that right now he is it. He may well be the backup if we only sign one more PG. I am just saying a guy that has gutted it out as a walk on for 3 years deserves some respect instead of having his few minutes of playing time being dissed like he was a nobody! The guy can ball or he wouldn't be on the team!

And didn't you say Reese was gonna be a factor and see more minutes than the previous year? Lol

I asked you if you knew his academic standing, you never answered so I'm left to assume that's a big fat NO.

Therefore, who's to say he's not on pace to graduate this year, and that instead of riding the bench for a 4th straight season he decides to transfer to a mid major where he will actually see PT and be eligible immediately?

Also, who's to say that if Tyndall has the chance to add a 4 or 5 star freshman, or impact JUCO and he needs a scholarship that he doesn't tell Reese to get lost?

And right now Pops is our starting center, so what's your point? Talking about a roster that currently has 7 scholarship players on it, and possibly 6 more coming, is kinda pointless. The rotation based on who's here, compared to who ends up here will be very different.

Sure he can ball, as compared to most message board posters, but he can't ball compared to the rest of the SEC which happens to be the conference he is in.

If he is our PG next year I'll cheer for him like no other, but for the sake of hoping next year doesn't suck I'm hoping Tyndall does what he says and signs 2 PGs so we don't have to see Lopez out there for meaningful minutes.
