Shame on you, HopTown. If you've never seen evidence that Phil Fulmer deeply cares for Tennessee, you've been living deaf, dumb and blind for the past 50 years.
Having said that, Phil may not be a very good choice for AD ... don't think he has the requisite business leadership experience. The AD job is all about business management. Coaching and business management both require leadership skills, but are otherwise very different professions.
I like the Dave Blackburn suggestion a lot more. If Hart were to go anywhere. Not seeing any signs of that yet.
BS! If Phil loved UT so much he would have retired 10 years ago, but you're right about one thing,
Fulmer does not have the skillset for AD. unless total incompetence is the #1 criteria.
Where is there any evidence that Fulmer cares about anything but Phil Fulmer?
Wtf is wrong with you and your hatred for inarguably the second greatest and most successful head football coach in Tennessee history? You know, the one in the college football hall of fame?
Hart should be dismissed by the UT President nd find a new AD. I'd like to see Fulmer! Don't know who ese is out there that would take the job Would any previous basketball or football player do it? The staff might want to give it some thought. Just an opinion! Would Grunfeld be an option?
Because he abandoned the program, because he undermined his coaches, hired incompetents,
stopped recruiting, stopped leading, became an excuse machine, and brought the football program to
total irrelevance.
"The job of the offense is to get a few first downs, then punt." Coach Phillip Fulmer.lol:
He's Bama Dave because he graduated from Alabama. He played basketball at Alabama, he even was a grad assistant coach on the basketball team at Alabama in 1972. Bama Dave is Tide through and through. You have been schooled.
What?? Lol.
1. How exactly did he abandon his program? He was fired.
2. Which coaches did he undermine? He was fiercely loyal to his coaches...many would say to a fault.
3. He made 1 major awful hire... Dave Clawson.
4. Stopped recruiting? No. You wanna say he didn't recruit as well? Fine, won't disagree there.
5. Stopped leading? Define that for me.
6. Brought program to total irrelevance? That's complete BS. The year before he was fired he won 10 games and was in the SEC Championship game. We were down, no doubt about it and Philip certainly shouldered responsibility for it. But we didn't hit irrelevance until the Dooley years.
You've let your childish emotions overrule your ability to reason because you evidently don't like Phil. I get it to some extent, I have a borderline irrational belief that Tennessee will literally never beat Florida again....but at least my belief is rooted in some type of reality and evidence. Your irrational criticism and assessment of Fulmer's career at Tennessee because you don't like him makes no sense.
I do agree but also believe that shows the importance that having Cut run his offense had on Fulmer success. We had a bad yr before the yr Cut came back, made the SEC championship the yr he came back then fell off the following yr when Cut left for Duke. Sanders had a couple good yrs calling plays but when you have Casey at QB, Written at TE, Stallworth, Washington, Eric Parker, Cedric Wilson along with others then the stable of QB's we kept Sanders just had to not screw it up. Just discipline alone with Cut/with Sanders. You could watch FSU the last few yrs and the way Winston talked and acted towards Sanders. I guarantee if Cut was his OC that stuff wouldn't have been going on on the sidelines. Fulmer was just a better Coach when he had his security blanket on staff with him. Kinda like Jordan needing Pippen, he won when he had Scotty and didn't win when he didn't. Willing to bet unless he retired that if Cut had stayed at UT instead of going to Duke that Fulmer would still be our HC..jmo
On a shoe string budget, the Chattanooga Mocs have a better men's basketball coach, a better women's basketball coach, and quite possibly a better football coach than the Vols. The lack of leadership in Knoxville is an embarrassment.
