Who is the best Offensive Coordinator in the SEC?Country?

Earl Bennett is a great player and could be a first round pick. When was the last time Vandy had a qb or receiver go in the first round? They might have two in three years.

Bennett was good when he stepped on campus. They didn't develop him into a star.

Johnson gets far too much credit for developing Cutler into a first round qb...in fact, I think Johnson tried briefly moving Cutler to safety upon his arrival in Nashville (not a very bright idea). Cutler was outstanding as a freshman, and it was clear he was going to be a stud for the Dores. I give Woody the credit for being the only D1 coach to offer Cutler the chance to play quarterback.

Well..... if I remember correctly, Cutler was projected at the safety at the college level. I think that's how every school recruited him. He was rated low, and thus he went to Vandy. I think Bobby Johnson should actually get some credit for bringing along the position switch.

I'm not going to disagree really but Bobby Johnson knows how to coach a qb and offense. Wether Bennett was great from the start or Cutler was moved, credit still has to be given for putting these guys in a position to succeed against the best athletes in the country when Vandy doesn't and won't have the depth or overall talent other teams do.

If I recall correctly, Earl Bennett was a target of Cutcliffe's during his brief time with Notre Dame. I just thought that was interesting.

That is interesting. I would like to see what Bennett could have done with Samarjda and Quinn or say Swain and Meachem.

Do you know why he didn't go to ND and slipped to Vandy?

Not sure. Perhaps he grew disinterested when Cutcliffe left.

Yes...all other D1 schools recruited Cutler as a safety...but Bobby Johnson didn't switch Cutler to qb. However, Johnson nearly moved Cutler to safety...and no matter how well Cutler could have played for Vandy's defense, it would have been a mistake to move him to that side of the ball.

He didn't. What point are you trying to make? He almost made a mistake?

You said that Johnson should get credit for bringing along the position switch...there was no position switch. Cutler was a high school qb...and he was always a qb at Vandy....my point is, Johnson shouldn't get credit for bringing along the position switch.

You initially introduced the fact that he nearly moved Cutler to safety as some sort of indictment of his coaching ability. That doesn't make sense. Anyway, I imagine he played safety in high school, as well.

He did play safety in high school...He was offensive player of the year as a senior in Indiana.

You may have inferred that I attacked Johnson's coaching ability...but the only point I was trying to get across was that Johnson gets too much credit for Cutler's success. I think Widenhofer deserves more credit for identifying Cutler's strength as a qb, while all other coaches wanted him as a safety....it was no indictment of Johnson's ability, just praise for Widenhofer's.
