May the best young man win.

I'm pulling for Crompton, he's a tough, talented kid who grew up wanting to be a VOL. Unless one of the other guys is measurably better, which I doubt, Crompton will be our man.

are you "the truth" or just a big berry fan like myself. he and mayo were the shining stars of this past season. and i'm very excited watching berry play. what a "get"!!

crompton is a favre clone. if that's the case and it's generally accepted that Coleman has the better arm, then coleman has the best QB arm ever.

When and how did it become accepted that Coleman has the better arm? We haven't seen him play a snap on the college level. I personally believe everything we've heard to date was coach speak so as not to appear to have a qb controversy. Couldn't make it look like Crompton was good enough to beat Ainge out or Ainge might have another mental break down. In the article I read off the other board it said as much.

i think Crompton is a talented qb. afterall he almost led us to a victory in lsu game 2 years ago plus he has been under cutcliffe the last 2 years.

Someone told me they read a quote from Trooper on Crompton that said something to the effect of "The man can throw a football through a car wash without the ball getting wet" when asked about his arm strength. You can take it for what it's worth since I have no idea if he actually said that. Regardless of who the QB is I'm at least looking forward to the option of the bomb touchdown. I mean shoot, Crompton even managed to connect on a TD pass with Kenny O'Neal shouldn't that elevate him to some sort of superhuman status considering O'Neal did a whole lot of nothing otherwise?

I actually think it says alot for our fan base when a Parade All American comes to play for UT and our fans try to run him out of town before he can be given a chance to show anything. Forget the few obligatory snaps he was given with the scout teams. I wanna see this guy in there with the first string OL and WR's. When he played in the LSU game he looked good. The Arky game, he made personal friends with the Anderson kid that went to the NFL after that season. Eric Young missed him all night long and he and Crompton got to know one another pretty well. Can't blame your qb when he's not given a chance to do anything for running for his life. Meach couldn't get separation, nor any other WR that night.

The consensus on the various message boards that I have seen is that BJ or Nick is going to come in and take the qb spot over. Sorry if I jumped the gun on this board, but I've just read enough about BJ's arm being so superior or Crompton's not picking up on the offense, implying he's not very smart. Who said he wasn't picking up the offense in the first place?

I'm guessing that came from a message board too. It was rumored that Shuler didn't know the whole playbook when he left UT and that worked out ok. :p

I say Crompton....

He's tough, has a decent arm, has played in some big games and played decently, seems to be intelligent enough...and....more than anything....

HE'S NOT A STATUE!!!!

After the Clausen's and Ainge I am ready for someone who can do something with his legs...

And I'm not expecting Tee Martin....I'm just hoping for anything....the ability to pick up 5-6 yards if the WR's aren't open is fine with me...

I just want some kind of running threat back there...if the QB is absolutely NO threat to run then it is an advantage to the opposing D

The 'arm-strength' debate is not like its a huge deal. Stephens, Coleman, Crompton is probably the correct order. But they all have above-average arm strength and that will not be what holds any of them back. It will come down who knows where to go with the ball and who is more accurate. They can all throw the ball on a rope when needed.

Regarding recruiting it will hurt us with ONE type of player: Very highly rated QB who is afraid to compete.

If Crompton got beat out, competitor-recruits will say 'look, UT is fair... If I come in and compete, then I might play as an underclassman.'

That being said ... I hope Crompton hits the ground running this Spring and becomes a dominant player and leader for his remaining 2 seasons. So dominant that Coleman gets a lot of 4th quarter PT.
