Who is our Starting QB next year...

i don't understand why so many people are negative about Crompton. We really have no clue what he can do because his only experience was his freshman year vs. LSU and Arkansas. He's mopped up for us a couple times, but he's very inexperienced. Practice is closed, so where does everyone get their information about how Crompton's progress is coming along?

His INT'S sums it up for me.

He's a gunslinger and he's not the most disciplined QB around. He'd rather pick up 40 yards on a bomb rather than dink and dunk the ball. Supposedly he didn't pick up Cut's offense right away either.

That's the knock on Crompton.

New coordinator = Crompton without any hesitation.
really? I think it means wide open competition and the guy that performs best wins. Probably best for all concerned that he's going to approach this with no preconceived notions at all.

No preconceptions involved. I have a hunch that it will be all about managing risk. It is awfully hard to do that with a redshirt freshman that has never seen the field.

but the experience spread between the whole lot of them isn't really enough to make a difference.

I understand the point, but I would say that Crompton's performance against LSU and on the road against Arky (although terrible) will carry a tremendous amount of weight.

The coaches have always been impressed with Crompton's toughness and ability. They (Cut especially) were less impressed with his improvisation.

Not to mention the volume of snaps he's taken in practice as a number two the past year.

Thats how I felt as well. If the coordinator had stayed the same, then I think Crompton's chances increase since he would have "seniority" and did his time on the bench.

I think the new coordinator wants to prove himself with the best man for the job, period.

Now, that might still be Crompton, but I don't think it will be because we have a new coordinator.

i just harken back to what CDC said Saturday..."we adapt to our personnel". i'm very interested to see what they think of all the qb's when they really get their 1st looks at them.

i have to think they may look at the physical nature of JC and think there' something they can do with that.....but that's just me.:)

I want to see Kenny O'neal touch the football at least once!

Well, the thing is... if Crompton has had all this time practicing, sitting on the bench, etc... and gets beat out by Coleman than he shouldn't be out on the field anyway. I want Crompton to be the guy, but CDC should rate on talent, not seniority.

CROMPTON WILL BE THE GUY. very talented. Give him the snaps in practice andf watch out. A farve clone. RELAX. It's all good. And that's all I got to say about that.

couldnt have said it better rasputin, but i have been excited about seeing what crompton can do. i hope he wins out just because of the help he's been to our recruiting. i wish him well but agree he has to win the job. last thing we need right now is qb controversy.

What is a "farve clone?"

Are you suggesting that Crompton is similar to Favre? Unless JC has suffered through an addiction to painkillers, I don't see the similarities.

Comparing a back-up college quarterback to a SuperBowl MVP is a bit ridiculous.

this is a caption from a story posted on another site. I thought it was pretty telling of what went on on the hill the past couple of years: "Crompton got very little chance to compete for the starting job in 2006 and 2007 as Cutcliffe worked to repair an Ainge psyche that was nearly destroyed during a disastrous 2005 season. Now, with both Cutcliffe and Ainge moving on, Crompton has a golden opportunity to win the No. 1 job."
