Who Is Our Biggest Rival

Auburn wasn't even competitive with Alabama except for the Ears Whitworth years, and some time at the turn of the 20th century until after the death of Bryant. Heck, they didn't even play for 41 years after some violence after a tie in 1907.

Auburn has come A LONG ways in 25 years, and it goes to show Alabama's fanbase has gotten a lot younger too.

Soon Florida will be considered our primary rival by 95% of the fans.

IMO, the definition of a "rivalry game" is one that everyone cares about regardless of what it means for the standings. It should still mean everything even if both teams are awful. Think Army-Navy.

The Florida game has obviously become the most important game on the schedule in the last two decades, but mostly because of how much it means in the standings. I don't know how much it would stand as a rivalry game on its own if, say, Georgia became a colossus in the division and UT and UF were both going 7-5 every year. This Kiffin-Meyer stuff has a chance to cause some real genuine hatred and push it over into real rivalry territory, but thus far I'm not sure it's there yet. The UT-UF game has always been played with an eye on the division title, not really because you just hated the other guy.

The Alabama game has always been mostly just about hating the other guy.

Would really have to disagree with you there!

UF has never really given much of a crap about us. We've always hated them because we were always second fiddle.

After almost two decades, it's certainly getting to the point where it's personal, but it's just now getting there. There was no history at all between the two teams when we started playing all those high-stakes games back in the mid 90s.

I think most Alabama fans would put Tennessee and Auburn at the very top of their list of rivals. That's not the case for Florida. FSU and UGA duke it out for UF's top rival. Tennessee is a distant third behind those 2.

Bama without a doubt.

Florida is still the new kid on the block and the dislike can never run as deep.

What was it Verne Lundquist said about Tennessee-Alabama a few years ago? Something along the lines of, "You know, there's a lot of pageantry with a lot of these great college rivalry games, but there's nothing pretty about Tennessee-Alabama at all. It's just ugly, like two brothers having a fistfight in the back yard." (Major paraphrase.)

I'm almost 20 years old, and I hate pretty much every other SEC team, but more so Bama and Florida.

I live in Bama and most Bammers I know would rather beat UT. Probably has something to do with us beating them 11 out of the last 16 meetings...

Do you guys think it would be different (with UF) if you played in November every year instead of September? - not the results, but the rivalry itself.

This sounds more like a thread to see how old everyone is. Either way, Alabama is our biggest rival. Maybe they will get on here and tell us what the Bear would say about this thread.

And no Bammer fan is ever going to clain UT as their biggest rival...that sorry honor goes to Awburn.
I used to think that until my Bammer friend set me straight. He pretty much summed it up by saying:

Bama Fans at least respect Auburn (ORLY?), while we absolutely loath Tennessee and gave some story about Tennessee saying something about the Bear, and thats when I just tune him out...blah blah blah, 12 NCs, blah blah blah, The Bear, blah blah blah, 12 NCs, blah blah blah, The Bear,
blah blah blah, 12 NCs, blah blah blah, The Bear etc etc etc

And I may be one of the older ones on here. Therefore, the hell with bama, I hate the whole state of alabamy, the state does not even deserve the effort of capitalization.

1. Alabama - been rollin since 1906? Tied game, that turned into a fight at mid field between the fans. The people of Tennessee historically have never backed down from a fight. And the rivalry was born.

2. UF - For the most part, I have been alive during the entire rivalry with UF. At least the best years of it.

Because of my age (38) and where I live (about 45 min north of the bama line), it is and always will be bama. Where I live, I would say the population is close to being 50/50 for each school and I can tell you, being an annoying stupid bama fan is an universal truth. It is not just limited to inside the state of alabama.
