I would like to see how many of you are actually concerned at this point. My concern is not the players we are recruiting, it's the lack of commitments and interest it seems from recruits. Yes, it is July, but we are dead last in the SEC, it just doesn't feel right saying that. So are you concerned? If not, why? (logical explanation please)

I think once the NCAA issues are resolved it goes away and the commits start coming in, if we win a few games early it will help greatly too.

No- Class will be fine. Load up on LB's and DL this year and make a serious run in the SEC 2012.

dead last where? Do you honestly think we will finish there?

and why claim lack of interest? Are we not getting mentioned or getting kids to campus? There's a whole thread about July visits in the recruiting forum and it seems there are still kids interested in UT.

all this hand-wringing in the summer is ridiculous

Not worried now at all. Commitments this early have a tendancy to decommit later on. Now if we get to November and December with low numbers, then I'll worry. I also think there may some who are really leaning toward the Vols that are waiting to see the what the NCAA does and also what the Vols do to start the season. :crossfingers:

Dooley recruits different.. he does a lot of research on each kid he offers. He does not just throw out offers because of some star system or because other teams have offered.

Its easy to get into panic mode, but seriously its way to early for that.. if we are still last in December after we have a good year and kick some arse on the field, then it would be time to get concerned.

Right now its all just BS and any of these kids committing to places can change their minds whenever they want.. purely verbal commits mean nothing

It depends.

Will tennessee sign some players that can contribute? Yeah. Will the people they sign all be worthy of a D1 scholarship? Yeah.

Are they going to sign a class ranked in the top half of the SEC? I don't think so.

Are they going to sign a class that a championship team is built around? I don't think so.

My twitter timeline is constantly filled with recruits going to camps, announcement dates, etc., and shows which schools the player is interested in. We're listed on most of them. I'm not worried yet. As others have said, wait until the sanctions are handed down and fall starts before we have a total meltdown.

OSU lost it's top target, up to this point, to Michigan, because he didn't want to play for a school and be penalized for what other players did. We're not going to get near the penalties as OSU and once recruits see that, we'll be fine. I hope.

I wouldn't be a die hard fan if I wasn't concerned... Given that I think Dooley will finish strong like before.

Dooley knows what he's doing. IF this next class doesn't end up in the top 15 then I'd be concerned heading into the next year

Totally disagree about point 2, and it remains 50/50 about point 3.

As some have said there are 2 key things this year. 1) Getting past the NCAA penalties. I think we get 2 years probation, and the loss of 4 scholarships over 2 years. 2) How well do we play this year, and how many wins do we rack up? After the past 3 years, if we could go 8 - 4 in the regular season, especially with a couple of very good upsets, I think that will open a lot of recruits' eyes.

well guys gator here doesn't think we can build a championship team....

guess we should just throw in the towel now, no sense in even trying.

Seriously.. can I look forward to you going away after we hand your arse to you in the game this year?

It's July.

Full disclosure...I am not a recruiting expert and believe Dooley will get the job done but this answer, which I see posted all the time, is not compelling. If I'm not mistaken it's also July in Austin, Tuscaloosa and Gainesville so what does that have to do with how far behind we are at any given point in time?

you do realize those teams are in a much better position than UT and aren't waiting on word from the NCAA right (and their in-state base helps)? If you look at UT's recruiting history we never start out fast. No idea why it's just what happens

sure wish the OP would return and clarify his statements though
