Who is coaching RB?

Okay, now that the offensive coaching staff is complete, who will be coaching running backs?

Russell is ST/TE
Baggett is Passing Game/WR
Hinshaw is QB
Hienstand is OL
Chaney is OC

I don't know who gets RBs added to their duties...

What do you guys think?

I could be totally wrong but I think Chaney may end up coaching Qbs and Hinshaw Rbs.

I know that Nance said that Hinshaw was going to be the QB coach, but I can't help but wonder if it won't be Chaney at OC/QB and Hinshaw at RB.

It is 9 assistant coaches, right? So, the 5 you list plus DL, LB, DB, and DC unless our DC coaches DL.

I hope Chaney is the QB coach. He has a guy in the Super Bowl next week, enough said. But I will support whoever it is.

Do we really know how much he worked with Brees, specifically, though? I don't say that to knock on Chaney as a coach (or a position coach)....but he was the OC when Brees was at Purdue...was he is QB coach?

He was Brees' mentor. Very influential on him from what I've heard.

I've heard that too, but only really on this site without anything to back it up...that's why I was asking. I'm not refuting it...but I would just like to see some better evidence for it than I have seen (which is basically none).

Chaney worked with him but has always been more of a OL and TEs guy. I think he could do any position but I think Dooley will coach RBs in practice. Chaney likely helps in all positions. Hinshaw was a QB IIRC. Dooley is best at coaching RBs anyway. X was best at WRs/TEs thus you mainly saw him working with them in video of practice. Dooley though is not as good of a position coach as X was. He seems to be a better figure head, equal recruiter but X was an A plus position coach.

I would have Russell as the official RBs coach if it was me and Chaney as TEs coach. It just makes sense. Chaney has never been a RBs coach. He surely can coach the position though. He coached QBs at W. Michigan. His best place is on the line though with TEs and the OL. Either way IMO Russell would be RBs or TEs coach in name only as Dooley would be the real RBs or TEs coach. This offensive staff is good but Chaney is solo now on calling plays and scheming. Dooley will make philosophy choices but I cannot see Dooley being the play caller. What else would Dooley do effectively during practice if not coach RBs? TEs?

Jewbaccah, I like your post - but as I read it, either way our RBs are a bit left behind? They are either left with Russel (does he have much of a background here) or Dooley, who while he has some aptitude at RBs, is not a great position coach.

In the end, it seems RB is one of the easier positions to coach (or at least that is what I have heard), so that might be the best way for it to shake out.

We are coming off the high of Gran...a stud RB coach is not normal. It is usually a recruiter. That is why I say put Russel there. Chaney is a stud TE and OL coach. Although it seems it is going to be other way around from what the feel is now.

i can find nothing on the hireing of this Hienstand as an OL coach other then a thread started last night.where are you guys getting your confirmation on this hire?

There are multiple articles out there, some that were linked last night - but this on is about as official as it gets:

The article doesn't say that he is definitely coaching OL, but he is an assistant coach now. None of the coaches (except Bagget at WRs) are officially assigned a position besides the title assistant coach right now.

What does CDD coach? RB's maybe. We need a RB coach and I think CDD knows this , because his offense at LA TECH featured a nice running game!

CDD is going to be busy enough getting us back to our winning ways we dont need him being a position coach too that would take away from his coaching duties as a head coach :rock:
