Who is “the guy” on this team?

Trey.

Trey on offense and perhaps D.Taylor on defense. I would like to see DKjr get back in the groove because he could be a good leader. Warrior should look good this coming season also. As of now I just don't see a very vocal leader on defense but DK has the best shot if he can come back from injury,IMHO.

JJ needs to stop the childish antics....
He is not the only one on the TEAM
I'd put a stop to that chest beating and drawing attention to himself immediately...
Can he be very good....only if he applies himself to his trade

Nothing wrong with chest beating. That could be his way of showing his competitive nature. Its not childish antics. Its competitive drive.

In college football you can have a go to receiver but so often when the big games come around the defensive staff of the opposing team knows how to shut him down. Unless you have other ways of scoring you are pretty well done for....
Saban knew Hurts wasnt mobile enough for Alabama to be able to win and unless he used his backup who had speed Alabama would lose the championship game...The backup who had hardly played was the reason for the win...
Dabo and his D knew if they shut the Alabama running game down that they could win because Hurts would not be able to escape the speed of his defense....
Personally I think Alabama had all the pieces to win with skilled people on both O and D but Hurts was the weakest link...so shut down the run and Hurts was like a big statue back there...
Who do you thing broke tables that night?.......its all about the coaches decisions, all the player skills and senior leadership

Hurts wasn’t mobile enough? Lmao. The kid runs a 4.4 40. Do you even watch football?

D. Taylor on defense. Our defense is kind of loaded with young talent. Warrior. Kirkland. Tuttle. New staff will bring these guys together. All playmakers. O Line is going to pave the way for us on offense. Watch and see.

I could be wrong, but this could be a tough transition for d Taylor . He is either going to have to put on 30 lbs of muscle or learn to play standing up at a whole new position at outside lb. he was an undersized D end already in the 4-3 and “IF” they move to CJPs 3-4 he is horribly undersized.

PLUS the kid is 220lbs + with talent. Give the kid props for who and what he is. His daddy made him a high school QB, Bama had success with him as a QB (especially with Kiffin doing the play calling), but the young man is not a QB. He's a RB or a safety, his RB style probably the way he has been coached is to avoid contact, a VERY soft runner, reminds one of a Dobbs sort of in that he avoids getting blown up when running the ball. Has the build for a safety but just do not see the sort of dog one has to be to be great at that position. Ronnie Lott and Eric Berry are my benchmarks for that position. If you cant't blow a RB up the way EB did NoShow that should be on every Vol's highlight reel you are a lower tier Safety in my book. Frankly I don't see a position Hurts can play in the NFL simply because of poor coaching decisions as to his position no matter his tremendous talent, but the kid is tremendously talented.

The “Guy” in my opininion is gonna be the player who decides to play pizzed off with a huge revengeful violent attitude. Haven’t seen one in a while that would stoop to anything to win . Need one badly

Is revengeful >> than vengeful? Just asking.

With those 2, just throw it up high if all else fails. They both come down with it 3:4 times. Every game from UGA on last year, I would sit in front of the TV and say "Just throw it to Calloway" ... "Why are we not targeting MC 8-10 times EVERY game"? Game after game.

That's one thing 'll give Dooley credit for. When the wheels came off his last season, at least he fed CP in every way imaginable.

Brandon Johnson by far. By far the best hands on the team. I don't see the love affair for Callaway I'm sorry but I just don't see it. Callaway only ran one route all year just a simple go and maybe a hitch. Brandon going to lead the team in Wr yards again.

Teams who win have "team chemistry" and not "one guy"

The Chemistry is developed and held together by leaders (one guys). There can be more than one "One Guy" on a team. Can be several, however, they are needed as they are the leaders. The 2017 team was leaderless. Just because you are "the man" like JK was, doesn't mean you are the "One Guy". Not all players are leaders.

What game did you watch? I think you got it backwards for the most part. Hurts couldn't pass, that's what beat GA in the 2nd half.

I understand and respect what your trying to say or get at. But I really wish people could tell the difference between being selfish antics, attention antics, and what is passion and energy. Whether some understand it or not that stuff is needed it's infectious and can fire teammates up. It leads to momentum.

But I do agree that there can be selfish antics that distracting and hurting the team more than helping. I would argue that DaRick was more that way than JJ. Jennings problem has been growing up off the field not necessarily on it

The players need to learn this more than the fans. There are times to get emotional and times to just do your job. Fans are simply responding to what is on the field, the coaches need to teach the players when it's good and when it isn't.

Edit: After reading your post again, I wish posters would stop telling Fans how to be fans and understand that the product on the field is what needs to change.

When you are down by 28 in the 4th, it's stupid.

Playing the 3rd down music EVERY 3rd down is the same thing.

I would say a team is held together by multiple guys period.
A few leaders on defense and a few on offense.
2017 team was leaderless not only as in players in the starting lineups but in the coaching ranks as well...
Leaders lead by example...leaders lead by their play...a lot of players show excitement and maybe some ram their fist through a wall....Butch even screamed a lot...
Butch screamed at the players and officials but failed where leadership really mattered.....being able to coach players up

The players may ram their fist through walls or jump 10 feet high but until they can tackle, shed blocks and score what difference does all the screaming and putting your fist through the walls mean....NOTHING

We've had multiple leaders on offense and on defense..some were Peyton Manning and Al Wilson types and others were leaders but not in the same manner...

In the year of our national championship....what got us to the championship game was a streak of luck and the defense had nothing to do with the determining play...it was just luck...

But what the offense did with the ball after the turnover was team chemistry and not just one individual at all....it was a team effort...we had a terrific running back but unless we had the offensive line we would have failed once again

Then I guess you noticed what happened when Saban put his escape artist in at quarterback. The guy bought all the time he needed. He was so much QUICKER than Hurts will ever be...
Hurts was like a statue back there..I dont care if he ran a 4;3 40...
Re-watch the game...The replacement for Hurts was like Kamara quick and it won them the game

I like him to play a Tim Williams or used like striker was with Oklahoma a few years back. Like a stand up DE. I think in alignment we will be a 3-4 but I see three down lineman and bring Taylor off the edge. He has the grit to be a leader on the defense. Just hope he matures. Can’t keep beating up your O lineman.

A basketball player may have all the raw talent in the world coming in to his freshman season and the fans have the greatest of expectations for the team....but until the coach can get that player playing within the framework of a team he never will reach his potential as a player....
How many of our receivers was able to get open this year...every man has his job to do...
As I said before...when it comes down to the end of the season and the money is on the line and your facing the best teams the opposing defense is going to attempt to take your best player out of the game from a strategic standpoint...you better have other strengths you can lean on

If Hurts had the same arm/passing skills as Tua, we wouldn't be trying to pronounce his last name.....period. Hurts has better scrambling and running ability than Tua, no where near the arm or read ability. That was the difference.

TBD. Given the new Coaching staff and the players who quit or moved on, I'm thinking someone new. Due to my belief the team goes as the lines play, I'm hoping it is Trey and Tuttle. Second, I'd be very happy if there is no "guy" and the team is filled with men who all perform like they are team players on a mission to get us into the SEC championship game. GBO! VFL!

Trey.

+1

My assumption of the OP was who is/are the leader or leaders of this team? I agree that Trey is “the man” on offense. He was the leader last year. If our QB, whoever that is, isn’t a solid leader then we've got serious problems.

I’m not sure we have a leader on defense yet. I think Tuttle, Kirkland or Bitulli and a DB need to step up and be the leaders on defense. Pruitt will fix this...aight!

Kirkland. He's the best player on the team and MLB. He's the leader of this squad, or at least he should be. Hopefully JG takes some ownership too.
