Who hires a coach first Florida or Tennessee? (Providing Butch fired)

I think Dabo likes Clemson more than he would like an extra 3 mil when he's already making around 8 and has a championship caliber team that he built. If anything he goes back home to Bama when Saban retires.

I agree. I fully expect him to go to Bama when Nick hangs it up. Then we will never beat them. They will run a streak on us like we did to Kentucky from 1985 to 2012.

Florida. Probably Scott Frost and he'll kick Tennessee's ass for years to come. Unlike Currie and the rest of the useless knuckle draggers in Knoxville, Florida apparently wants to win. Not that a coach that is still in season can be hired but an interim could be appointed and at least it would show that they aren't going to settle for losing to the bottom tier of the SEC.

The more I look at this whole mess we're in, with just a hint of reality, the more I'm convinced that Scott Frost could be the answer. Like you said though, I'm worried that the Florida powers that be may feel the same way and will snatch him up soon while we are left scrambling...again!!

I don't see either making a hire for a few weeks unless a hire is made from someone not presently coaching (Chip Kelly, John Gruden, etc). Otherwise I expect hiring soon after last game for present team.

ESPN radio commentators acted like it was a done deal with Florida and a Frost yesterday. Kept talking about how difficult it must be for Frost to stay focused and say nothing and how hard it will be for Gator fans with the university unable to announce it officially.

As objectively as I try to look into, Tennessee seems to be the better coaching job of the two. Tennessee, while having a down year, is on the rise from where we were in the Dooley years and have fairly decent overall talent. Stadium is bigger, Fanbase is larger, and facilities are nicer.

On the other hand, Florida seems to be where we were before Butch and is on the downtrend. Their recruiting classes have been getting worse and worse. They may land one or two highly rated 4 stars, but they cover up many lowly rated 3 stars that fill out their signing class. There may be more overall talent in the state of Florida, but they are having to compete against FSU and up-and-coming Miami for the top players.

Does anyone actually like the Vols chances in a market with Texas A&M, FL, Arkansas, and maybe Auburn searching as well?

College football coaching searches: Florida, Ole Miss, Tennessee, Georgia Southern - SBNation.com

"1. Florida
Two candidates have emerged from the pack: UCF head coach Scott Frost and Oregon head coach Willie Taggart.

Frost is repped by Trace Armstrong, a former Florida player and Gainesville resident. Taggart is a client of prominent agent Jimmy Sexton.

Oregon’s recent three-game skid hasn’t seemed to hurt Taggart’s buzz, likely because decision makers aren’t focused on a Year 1 rebuild involving multiple key injuries.

Florida is unofficially communicating with potential candidates about possibly retaining particular staff members for recruiting reasons, including defensive coordinator and current interim head coach Randy Shannon.

2. Ole Miss
Ole Miss has been vetting a long list of candidates in recent weeks, namely USF head coach Charlie Strong, Memphis head coach Mike Norvell, and UTSA head coach Frank Wilson. Athletic director Ross Bjork is hoping to make a hire quietly and to have a replacement for Hugh Freeze and interim head coach Matt Luke in place immediately following the Egg Bowl.

Strong spent 1990 as an Ole Miss assistant and has spent nearly his entire career in current SEC states.
Wilson’s stock is very high, partly for his recruiting acumen. As an assistant for Ed Orgeron, he helped build the Rebels’ 2008 and ‘09 Cotton Bowl teams with a host of Louisiana talent, and he has two former Ole Miss players on his staff in San Antonio. He led the Roadrunners to their first-ever bowl in 2016 and is on the verge of a second.

Norvell has become a favorite of Memphis-area boosters. Ole Miss believes Arkansas will consider Norvell if the Razorbacks move on from Bret Bielema.

A separate faction of Ole Miss boosters has pushed for SMU head coach Chad Morris and Alabama defensive coordinator Jeremy Pruitt. Despite the variety of suggestions, multiple sources indicate it’s Bjork’s call.

3. Tennessee
With Week 10’s win over Southern Miss, Butch Jones’ job security is technically alive, albeit on life support. The message inside the program is that UT needs to win out and keep its recruiting class intact through December’s early signing period.

At other schools, coaches and agents are treating Tennessee like an open job. Mississippi State head coach Dan Mullen is the most frequently discussed name (that isn’t Jon Gruden). Multiple coaching sources confirm Mullen would “fit” with new athletic director John Currie."
