I read on another thread that Hart basically forced Dooley to hire Sal.

If this is true then I lay most of this years fail on Hart and Sal. If Dooley didn't think that Sal was the man for DC and is having to work with him, there is no wonder that we are defensively in the toilet.

The special teams and the offense are pretty good (certainly good enough to win these games)

The gaping hole is this Terrible defense scheme and if what I heard about Hart is actually true then I lost a lot of respect for him as a AD.

Thoughts?

In hindsight it's obvious it's a bad hire, but alot of people were pretty excited with this hire pre-season. No more saban disciples.

According to the rumor mill Hart wanted Shannon and CDD nixed the deal

Doubt seriously Hart forced Sal on Dooley

I'm no insider or anything but I have heard from a couple people that Hart thought Sunseri might be the replacement for Dooley. He was obviously extremely wrong if it's true.

Current rumor(notice I say rumor) is that Hart had Shannon on the line but Dooley protested(probably didn't feel safe with a former HC on staff). The compromise was Sunseri. What I find humorous about this is that the people pointing fingers at Sal are mostly the same people who screamed Dooley needed more time to get his system in place. Dooley year 3, Sunseri year 1, where's the time arguement now? Personally, given time to recruit the proper players for a 3-4, I think Sal could be a good DC, but I don't see it happenning here. Dooley's about to go and I doubt either coordinator survives.

Sunseri, or are you thinking of Bama's DC Kirby Smart? Smart is the one that was speculated as Hart's pick if Dooley failed. Most believe the boosters want a bigger name. Not alluding to Gruden, but at least a proven HC and not just a coordinator.

If Shannon were here this season is a totally different story...Sal is an excellent coach but he should be a linebackers coach. Keep the 3-4 at Alabama. Let's play Tennessee football.

Shannon wasn't as close as many thought. Possible issues at Miami through ncaa investigation scared many off, which is why he didn't get a DC.
Dooley wanted Steele, but then Clemson gave up @ 70 and it threw a wrench.
Hart wanted Sal. Dooley was good with it.

If hart is responsible for the hiring of Sal, then Dooley deserves another year with a new DC.

It doesn't really matter who did what or to whom except in looking down the road. If Dooley stays, Sunseri stays. If Dooley goes, Sunseri goes. If Hart "forced" Sunseri on Dooley, you can bet that both will be around next year. If Dooley "forced" Sunseri on Hart, you can bet both will go.

I'd hope that isn't the case. Hart shouldn't be telling him who to hire.. It's Dooley's ship..

Anyone think that if Lance Thompson was given the chance to be DC, we might not be having the coach change conversation? I realize he had just as much experience as Sal, but at least he had been in the program for a while and was considered a solid defensive coach.

Food for thought although it really doesn't matter now.

And were they a success? I know that the boosters and other people will have a lot to say to whom is hired, but it's HART's name that will be accountable.
