Fights are very commen during college practices and sometimes are used to even rachet up the practice on a slow day. While in college at a D1-aa school I was apart of at least 7 or 8 fights, and 1 brawl. Fights were commen practice and never saw anyone hurt from one.
I was actually once told by a coach to start a fight. It was a kickoff and we were having a **** practice, special teams coach told me to go hit another player in the back after the play and start a fight. I did and the fight ensued, nothing special a few punches and grapped facemasked.
Coach then called everyone in and ripped the team to shreads for not coming to their teammates aide or breaking it up and just standing there watching. Safe to say the rest of practice was pretty intenst.
First year I was there, we were dominating the defense on scout team and had scored about 7 touchdowns. Well they were not happy. I had already ripped one of the defenders helmets off in practice when he started a fight and took it back to the huddle with me. They tackled the runningback on the last play of the day, and 15 or 18 defensive guys dogpiled him leading to a brawl.
No hard feelings afterwards, and the defense played their most inspired game of the year.
Fights are good, as long as they are not personal and taken off the field.
