I believe that, with all this stereotyping of people from the South, and especially Tennessee, that Rocky Top, in it's original form contributes to our ridicule

You my sir are not thinking clearly...Rocky Top is a classic and I happen to like my corn from a jar and know for a fact that the dirt is very rocky.

Those who ridicule the south have obviously never been to the rural areas in the northern states where their inhabitants are easily as backward if not worse.

it is funny that so many will get up and arms about the ESPN commercial when Corso gets in the elevator, yet be so proud of Rocky Top.

Personally, I wish they would still show the UT/elevator commercial. It was hilarious.

Nah...people are gonna think what they're gonna think. The song does nothing to make that worse. If we had a song about quantam physics and brain surgery it wouldnt' change their minds either.

I think it is the absolute best fight song there is....if you're a fan, you love it...if you're not it is the most annoying song in the world.

It was hilarious that Bama's bowl opponent (can't remember who it was at the moment) played it when they were losing.

The song's not the problem. It's the football team that's so damn embarrassing.

If you have lived outside the South then you would know what I am talking about. I went to a party the other day and some dude form England asked me where I was from and I said Tennessee and he started doing a little jig and singing Rocky Top. Most people that I do business with have prejudices against people from the South. I normally just play it up and put on my best East Tennessee accent and tell then "we just got indoor plumbin' yesterdy yuck yuck"

you worry too much. after all you're the one from there, you know how it really is. so who gives a damn what some brit thinks that has zero frame of reference?

my advice, any time someone wants to start up a verse, sing along with 'em.

Tell them to come down here and mock us to our face!

Seriously, puff your chest out and call them on it, play on the stereotypes from the region they come from and maybe they'll get the point. They probably haven't even seen the south.

I'd suggested doing business with smarter people, or people from the south.

I've never had a business-related problem due to my southern upbringing.

The fact that people in England know Rocky Top should be enough to let you know how great it is...

Who else on here thinks KureVol is a closet Yankee?

Unfortunately it's the damn yankees that have all the money in my business

The fact that I am from Tennessee has always been a positive conversation starter, whether talking to someone in Boston, Alaska, Oregon, New Mexico, etc. It doesn't matter. A Southern background is fine. An uneducated one is what gets you into trouble.

I was at a NY Yankee game over labor day weekend, Rocky Top came over the speakers to I started my flat foot routine, and everyone around loved it. Especially since I was the only one in stadium with my orange UT shirt and hat on.

It was Minnesota and their band played Rocky Top after the game, won by the Gophers, was over.
