There was a slight dread to the thought of next season... do they likely take a step back? Can you imagine the disappointment if Nico can't transcend above the players around him? What if they can't even win 10 games again? We've all been cautiously optimistic about Nico but I kept waiting for that disappointment of him not actually taking that step.

Now? There's some relief and honestly, if the team goes 8-4 I won't even be that upset. They kinda feel like the underdog now. Some excitement about who is going to take the reigns, can these guys (or Faison coming in) live up to the hype? Can they take Georgia by surprise with a new face they weren't ready for?

I feel like Heupel bought himself another year from the major criticism that would come with Nico not panning out and them missing the playoffs. Now, my anxiety is way down with my expectations simmered šŸ˜‚

This is a mulligan year for Heupel. Because Injave a feeling a few more guys are gonna bolt because of the Nico thing. We will likely be in dod a long tough year that sees us take a step back wins wise. And I am completely fine with that. Rebuild the team chemistry and find the guys that want to play here.

I think there's a real chance the locker room and chemistry improve significantly and few, if any, key players actually jump ship this spring.

I STILL do not understand the woe is me attitude from Nico leaving. The guy handed it off last year 35 times/game. Any of us could likely do that as well. His passing was subpar against SEC teams and his stats were greatly inflated with the lesser opponents.

Either one of the guys we have can repeat that same plan this year as Nico did last year. A good running game and stout defense got it done last year. Why not this year?

What youā€™re experiencing is the balloon being popped on expectations. The expectations for this season went down by an order of magnitude of about eleven-teen. Depending on point of view that can be good or bad. Bottom line is no matter how you look at it or how high you are on the other two QBs weā€™re still going to have a less experienced freshman QB starting than we had last year.

The aspect I canā€™t wrap my mind around is what type of NIL contract does the university or collective sign with an athlete that is not enforceable? They reworked his deal in frickinā€™ December!

You're setting yourself up for disappointment if you think we're making the playoffs, we'll see how all of the new guys develop but we lost alot...the Nico thing I'm happy he's gone..my criticism of him last season was met with the normal I don't know what I'm talking about....now everyone's on my sidešŸ¤£šŸ¤£šŸ¤£

It may have been mentioned already, but a buyout clause seems appropriate going forward.

I think there is a higher chance than people realize of all this backfiring. It feels good to stand up now, but won't matter much once we get to conference play and our young QBs potentially look lost. It only takes a an injury or two to our skilled position groups for us to be really lacking. And even then, alot of the players are inexperienced.

The sentiment midseason could easily change to "Oh, I get why Nico wanted to leave. He looked around the offensive room and wasn't too impressed. He may have been promised more help in the portal and for an overhaul to the offensive playbook only for the offense to look the same and even take a step back in personnel.


Also, If Nico is fortunate to land a deal with a team like USC and have a coach with the offensive pedigree as Lincoln Riley, etc, than he may even have a great year leading fans to wonder, "What If?"

I think Nico was told to pound sand in December when he asked for a raise.

Yesterday was just round 2 and the straw that broke the camels back

I'm not even mad he's gone.

For what we were paying him, he way underperformed.

I thought playoff was going to be rough even before this week. Issue is what we lost up to today as well. We will see though.

Iā€™ll wait. No way in hell am I worrying about what may have been in the here and now. I have accepted I will not be having his babies.

Well, right now the backup 4* QB and 5* Freshnan QB are all the hype. But I've seen this movie enough before to know it usually doesn't go as well as everyone dreams it too...at least not at first.

We were a 9-3 team with Nico.

Think I can accept 8-4 without Nico.

I survived 2009-2020. Not much in this old world that scares me anymore as long as I can see it coming also

Yeah I guess in a way it may feel good for many to go back to old ways of not expecting anything good from the football team. I see it, I really do. If you know your team sucks, then thereā€™s no reason to emotionally or financially invest.

For me I get tired of the whole next yearā€¦. And after the next year falls short/and the talent and experience leave the fans then shift to ā€œwell next year we willā€¦.., the team is young and inexperiencedā€¦ā€¦, and when _________(player) gets more time under his belt, and rounded out by we will see if Coach does good after this coming year. I like Coach by the way.

The silly part is the ā€œnext yearā€ excuse will be present again the following year. The more experienced players will move on, leaving only younger talent, thus giving people another excuse to use the next year argument, and itā€™s a never ending cycle. Itā€™s like a battered wife who thinks things will be better next time because her scumbag husband tells her it will be. At some point the feeling sad for her canā€™t help but evaporate when the inevitable feeling of you get what you ask for moves in.

Iā€™m truly shocked that people fall for it. If this is the state of the team then just say it. But donā€™t insult yourself or others by using bullsh*t excuses to help cope with reality.

I think the reality until there is some form of regulation on NIL money is that the best you can do it hope for a break out season for some on your team you donā€™t expect it from. And when that happens hope for others to live up to their ability, along with other breaks also. Or you can spend ridiculously like Ohio State did and cross your finger that it pays off. The shocking part is that NIL money is unregulated. Hell even professional sport has capsā€¦ and contracts so players canā€™t dip out all willy nilly like. They need to get it under control fast because itā€™s ruining everything good about college football. I hate watching NFL because the player could care less how they do because they get payed no matter what, atleast until the last year of their contract when they apparently have a miracle and turn into a star again. Itā€™s stupid.
