Who do you think will replace Franklin at Vanderbilt?

Rick Stockstill wouldn't be a bad hire for them. He's right there in Murfreesboro and may not even have to relocate.

For the sake of our players' safety, I hope Vandy doesn't hire him. If he's hired we'll have to invest heavily in face mask visors.

About the same as Butch Jones'.

Took a quick glance at his UC/CMU years. Quick glance so I might have missed a couple.

Here's what I found to further the discussion.

2010- 2-8

2011- 2-2

2012- 2-3

CMU:

2007- 2-2?

2008- 2-3

2009- 5-2

(Also 5 wins over 6-7 teams, but not included in numbers)

Here's what I saw vs winning teams:

Franklin: 4-14 .235

Jones: 19-28 .404

I might have made a mistake, but those don't seem very similar to me

If I were Vandy,I would go after Mark Hudspeth. I think He would be better than JF.

didnt he have an affair with a cheerleader and knocked her up then later marry her?...go from a guy who covered up a rape to a cheating with co-ed HC. That will go over well.

Question...

How bad do you think Vandy's recruiting class will be?

I assume most of the commits chose Vandy because of James Franklin and not because of what Vandy's football program offers. Vanderbilt is a garbage football program and without Franklin, surely they'll lose most of their class. Even if they hired a new coach today, they'll still have less than a month to recruit. Tennessee was only able to keep their class in tact because we actually have awesome facilities. Only recruits who chose Vandy for academics will bother sticking around because their facilities and football program suck. Their recruiting class is going to be a trash heap. They're aiming for top coordinators around the country but if you're a top coordinator, why would you take Vanderbilt of all jobs, especially with no time to recruit. I imagine Vandy's recruiting class is f'ed.

Didn't I remember that the AD said he would shave his head to keep Franklin and he would give all of the money he saved from Haircuts to increase his salary?

WOW!! that's a lot to turn down.
Maybe he'll also shave his legs for the next guy, and even skip going to the dentist to chip in some extra for a new Head Coach.

Turning serious for a moment, these are targets they could realistically look at and get if they got serious about the money and contract.

In no particular order...

Ed Orgeron has a chance since he is unemployed at the moment. He has SEC experience (albeit not a good record as a HC) and looked pretty decent as the fill in this year.

Tim DeRuyter has proven he can play in the big leagues for the most part. And his salary isn't exactly matching his on field performance right now.

Rod Carey is only in his first year at NIU and potentially could be a target. However, he hasn't been in that position for long and is playing with Doeren's players, so this could be a hit and miss hiring.

Rocky Long is another coach that doesn't have a good enough strength of schedule to move into the big leagues. But has proven himself to be a winner.

And as much as I hate to say it, Lane Kiffin could have the potential to go if the Alabama OC position falls through or a bidding war ensues. He would probably trade off his firstborn to get another shot at a HC position. However, for the moment is still slightly warm with the radioactivity from his last three programs. But Vandy might be willing to take a chance.

Matt Wells would be another coach that has potential to move up in the ranks. Utah State proved they could play ball and even their losses were reasonably close.

Vandy has to break out the checkbook to get in good talent. By and large, the program still has "Vanderbilt" in the name and frankly, a lot of coaches would be hesitant to move there considering the historical record of the school. However, Franklin has paved the road so to speak and the program might look a bit more appealing to some that want their shot at the big leagues in the SEC. A lot of non-AQ coaches (yes, I realize this doesn't matter any more) and potentially even AQ coordinators/assistant coaches might be willing to give it a go to get their name out there.

Isn't Ed Orgeron kind of considered a dirt-bag though? I know when he left Tennessee and was calling UT recruits telling them not to sign so they can follow him to USC was a dirt-bag move. With Vandy's high opinion of themselves, I wonder if they'd hire him.

And Kiffin... I don't think there's any chance they'd hire him. His antics alone might be enough for Vandy to avoid him, but since it's a well known fact he'll bolt for a better program the first chance he gets, I doubt they'd hire him. He'd leave them after one season if he was offered a better job. Would be hilarious if Vanderbilt hired him and that happened.

There are just not to many OC OR DC coaches a school will hire and pay them 4 million.
I don't think the pay would be what he was making.
It would have to be some coach to pay 4 million...

Most coaches they get would last 3 or so years and move on.
Vandy is a stepping stone school..Vandy is not a national championship school.

I might be wrong but I say he is staying 4 million and got all the new facilities he got a pretty good set up. He is going to get a raise if he stays..

More of a dirt bag than a coach that checks out his assistant's wives and helps cover up a rape?

Ed O might have been pretty shady with what he did to us, but I'm not sure he would stoop that low.

Depends on how desperate they get. Closer to signing day we are, the less likely they will be to hold onto principles.

My guess would be one of the names in the middle of the list or again, a OC or DC from a well established, winning program. And a salary around $2.5-3.5 million depending on when the hire is made.
