I can't believe people still mention Bob Stoops...He's not coaching again...what no Urban Meyer?...How about Saban?!?...At least be realistic when you do this stuff.

Stoops coached the Dallas Renegades in the XFL. And, he re-joined the Sooners temporarily due to COVID issues.

Saturday Down article - December 2019:

Bob Stoops:

“Well you never know what the Lord is going to bring ya,” Stoops said. “Everybody wants you to define your life at every age. At 50, they wanted me to know what I was going to do the rest of my life. And at 55, and now at 59, everyone thinks you gotta…ya know, who knows what I’ll be doing next year or the year after. You don’t know what you’re going to be doing next year. And the good Lord is the only one who knows.

“We’ll see where things end up for me.”

Lemme see, since 1977 (43 years for the math challenged) we have hired one former national championship coach and 1 assistant that won a championship. Since then we have hired 4 losers and are about to hire our 5th. We have a problem at the top, it's like the defund the police movement when you have a crime spree, you don't spend less on police.

You can be pretty sure it will be 'Other' or 'Other - mid major' unless there is a drastic change in mentality at the top. And that is highly unlikely, to say the least.

Stoops is only 60 and has said in multiple interviews that he still loves coaching and has missed it. Urban Meyer is not realistic. I actually think Bob Stoops is.

I suspect it will be Mr. Mid-Major. If we go there, then we need to get a guy who has actually confronted a difficult job as a head coach and developed a quality program from it.

I hope they would go with Freeze. But that is not what the power people do around here.

We also haven't hired a coach who has rebuilt a program since Majors. If we will not go Freeze or a similar instant-notice hire, then go get the kind of guy at the mid-major level who has shown the ability to do for his program what Majors did for Iowa State and Pittsburgh when they both held the status of long-term bottom feeders.

It’s hard to explain firing a coach for recruiting violations only to immediately hire a coach who was slapped with recruiting violations a few years ago. I would still hire Freeze but our admin/boosters don’t have the guts to do it.
I think you just made a case for Freeze, because 2020 with complications of Tennessee.

I think Mark Stoops is a possibility - maybe Bob could come as a GA/Butch advisor who really has expertise if he misses the game.

I selected other because the university will find a way to make The current players mad by getting rid of Pruitt and also make the fans mad by hiring a LB coach from a division III school.
