Who do we end up with? Not who you want, but who do we likely get?

Dude

Shuler was an athlete. He was much better thrower, and heisman capable. But there hasnt been a better runner at QB than Dobber, maaaaybe Condredge.
Agree. Dobbs is the best runner for a QB I have seen. Don’t remember as much from Holloway, Streeter or Robinson. Maybe they were on par. Tee was a pretty good runner too but Dobbs is the best I have seen. Shuler had a strong arm and was athletic but not as strong a runner as Dobbs.

Who is saying he needs to be a bodybuilder? Completely different goals, completely different regimin.

This is why exercise science is a science.

6'6" QB needs different skill sets than OL. But additional muscle protects the cage. Tendons, ligaments, all that needs protection.

Anyway, you get it.
The 10 lbs of healthy weight gained in the “let him sit a year to beef up” is absolutely minuscule on a 6’6 frame. Plenty of “filled out” QBs have had season ending injuries and plenty of “small” QBs have had successful seasons.

They have the skill set to start or they don’t. I can promise you if coaches see a QB progressing nicely he won’t be held out due to the fact of being precisely 7lb 3 oz to light for the SEC based on “exercise science”. People look into this way to much, especially at the QB position.

He ran a 4.5. Not sure how much faster you need to be at 6'3". Like I said, he was best runner ive ever seen at QB. Better than Schaeffer.
Not downing Dobbs he was a very effective runner, I agree he was better than Schaefer, in fact I would say he is probably 4th or 5th best in Vol history with his legs. I wasn’t old enough to evaluate Dewey Warren as a runner.😆He was a better runner than Cockrell, Cockrell did have a good arm though. He was definitely faster than Francis or Kelly or Sterling Henton. Also faster than Peyton and Tee for sure. Better runner than Ainge as well. Todd Helton was sneaky fast but Dobbs was better I think. So your right in the sense that he was one of the better runners at Quarterback. Watching Holloway got me hooked on UT football at age 7. The name the Artful Dodger was a great name for Holloway. He was as tough as they come as well. T-Robinson before getting hit by Bennett could absolutely fly and he could throw the long ball well. He was dangerous in the open field. Johnny Majors said he was the most talented quarterback he ever coached. He was dangerous. Hell the whole 1985 team was bad arse. That team could have easily been national champs. Had Robinson not went down, they probably win it.

And how do we know one of our highly sought after qb on the roster now would not do much better than Nico last year. We don't, they could perform much much better, or much worse, we just don't know. I do know Hype slowed the offense down considerably this past year, and I think it was because of Nico not being able to process the plays fast enough.

Impossible? No. Unlikely? Yes.

When you've watched as much football as I have over the last 45 years, especially Tennessee football, you tend to set your expectations accordingly. Even Peyton Manning only managed to finish 8-4 as a true freshman and that was on a way more talented team than what we have right now, in a way weaker SEC than now. I'm not about to sit here and entertain the idea that either one of these QB's are so special, they are going to lead us to some magical season, because that's just fairytale nonsense.

Next door neighbor is a ND fan and he came out to congratulate us on getting their QB. Says all the talk in the ND fan space says he is heading our way and glad he might be rather than lesser programs.
