Who do we go after now?

Well, Currie has done what I thought impossible. He's screwed up worse than his predecessors. I was unhappy with the idea of Shiano as our next HC simply because I thought we could do better. The whole Penn State cover up is a side issue, simply because I've yet to read anything showing proof he knew what was going on. A coworker says he did, he says he didn't, but if there is proof he did indeed know, he's a PoS that shouldn't be coaching period. But please, can someone direct me toward the proof? Seems a shame that a man's life now stands in shambles based simply on the accusations of another man. Where is the proof?

But putting that aside, this whole situation leaves us looking ridiculous in the national spotlight once more. And to think other potential candidates don't see this as a cluster**** of the highest order is wishful thinking. Currie may have put the final nail in the coffin of Tennessee football. So pissed off. How on God's green earth do you screw up this badly? How do you set out a plan to hire someone of integrity, then even consider a man even remotely linked to such a horrible incident? I feel sorry for Schiano if he indeed didn't know, but how the hell does his name even make the list based on the criteria Currie set out?

We are so screwed. I honestly think we may just suck forever. So damn depressing.

Sumlin, Frost, Norvell, Strong, Miles, and yes.......even Kiffin.

Looks like a pretty good list to me. I would probably change the order, but that's just me. What does Frost make now? 2M maybe? Go offer him 6M and another 6M to get a staff. (At this point we are going to have to over pay to get a good coach to come in here to straighten out this mess). His wife will like the raise and tell him he can chase Neb. after 10 years of success at Tennessee. By then, he won't want to leave. Next, I would go after Kiffin. One of those two will take the job with the right approach and the right financial offer. We will be fine by this time next week, but we need to make these two moves tomorrow!
Relax on Currie. He made a mistake. All of us have made them. We will recover. We just need to correct the mistake.

Les Miles, then Kevin Sumlin, then Mike Norvell or Frost if you can twist their arms.

Kiffin with a $30M ethics or buy UT out clause. We give him $1M if cause.

I am ok with letting Hoke continue for one year and re-evaluate. No Schiano. No Leach. No trouble or project coaches.

Lamo left last time.

The real question I have after all this....Who have we REALLY offered the job too besides Schiano? Did we ask Kelly? Did we ask Mullen? Have we asked the hottest Non-Power 5 coach in the country in Frost?

The one person we all really did not want was Schiano and of course he was the one offerered the job but who have we asked already and where do we go from here are the questions we need to be asking.

If reports are true, Schiano was a done deal 2 weeks ago with Haslam calling the shots.

As expected, the Tennessee AD is just a puppet of the incompetent owner of the Cleveland Browns. At this point I don't think they have a plan. No one else was really ever considered. At first I thought it was good that we didn't go through a search committee, but I didn't realize that was because Haslam was handpicking the hire.

I never expected a home run hire due to the state of the program right now. But there were quite a few quality 2nd tier candidates who would have been solid hires. But I think that ship may have sailed on most of them now.

Heaven only knows who is #2 on their list if they even have a list. It looks like we're going to have to pull a rabbit out of a hat or get lucky on an up and coming google hire for this not to be a repeat of Dooley.

In that order.

Bobby petrino. Damnit. Why does nobody seem to realize how great of a coach he is? And he can be had for a value. He'd almost certainly have take the job...before the debacle today. Now curry has to go before we could expect any coach to talk to us

Who does the AD target now to be the next HC? Realistic candidates...not Jon Gruden (He is never coming here) Keep in mind the choice of Schiano indicates we are down to our third tier coaching choices. I guarantee Schiano was not Currie’s first choice and he has likely been told no a few times already.

Realistic candidates (beggars can’t be choosy)

Mike Norville
Chad Morris
Kevin Sumlin
Jeff Brohm

Where is Matt Campbell on this list?

Tennessee is going to have give someone a lot of incentives and a huge buyout to come here. This what college coaches probably see Tennessee as.

With Tennessee's fan base of uninformed idiots good luck getting anyone to coach for the VOLS. This toxic fan base is unlike any other I've ever seen. Do your homework morons - Schiano was offered the Miami and Oregon jobs last year and turned them down. He turned down Tennessee prior to the offer to Butch Jones. He's a great coach, one who Bill Bellichick relies on often to counsel his team. Tennessee's fan base is among the worst in the nation when it comes to smarts and common sense. Toxic. Good luck getting anyone to coach this team now. Morons.
Thanks for the feedback, Greg.

Who in their right mind would want to follow the, "almost", hiring of Schiano? This was handled so poorly and so out of the blue, that it shocked the supporters to the core. I don't know, maybe he was the 1st one that said yes. If so I wonder who all declined before him, because the list of those declining, is going to grow now.

There's another Power 5 HC in play that hasn't been mentioned in this thread. He would make most, if not all, of the fanbase very happy. That's all I can share at this time.

Any reasonably good coach should be able to get us to 7-5 or 8-4. I think our regular season ceiling right now is 10 wins.

1) We should win all 4 non-conference games in most years. That's 4 wins.

2) We should beat Kentucky and Vandy every year. That's 6 wins.

3) We will lose to Alabama every year as long as Saban is there. Okay, we are still at 6 wins, and there are 5 games remaining.

4) We will be fortunate to beat the other school from the West more than 1/2 the time. We are at either 6 wins or 7 wins, depending upon who we play.

5) If we split the 4 in division games with Georgia, Florida, Missouri, and So. Carolina, we are at either 8 or 9 wins. To get 10, we have to win either 3 or all 4 of those.

Tee Martin is a Vol, it means more to him. Hire him tonight and give him the money to build a great staff.

Hiring Martin would make sense. After this fiasco we're going to be bottom feeders in the hunt for an established coach. Hire him immediately if possible.
