Isn't that what we did last year?We still need someone serviceable. No way in hell we can ride with a RS FR and a true FR. We are 1 injury from only having 1 schollly QB. Zero chance they let that happen. Not saying they bring in a high level QB, even if one was available. Bring in a Gaston Moore type for insurance.
He's a damn good 2nd/3rd optionSomeone mentioned that Gaston Moore is in the portal without a landing spot. While I don't think he's a replacement or starter, he might be a calming influence in the locker room if he wants to come back.
I'm not at all suggesting he's a potential threat to Merk or G-Mac but more of, well honestly, a set of eyes and ears for Heupel this year until things settle a bit.
OL should be solid this year. If they don’t pursue a stud QB and a stud WR isn’t available I think the best course would be to use the money we had allocated for Nico to beat LSU’s offer for Tristen Keys and let Merk show what he can do. Then if he goes under .500 in conference play and doesn’t give the coaches a lot of confidence in competing for a championship next season you push Merk out and get a portal QB that can win 10 games while Faizon Brandon redshirts. This team’s likely finish even with Nico was most likely 9-3, and in todays era going 9-3 and losing to Florida, Bama, and Georgia is no different than going 7-5 and losing to Oklahoma and Syracuse tooLet Mac and Merk battle it out in summer camp. Spend the NIL money getting more linemen once the portal opens back up. No need to get anyone else, especially with Brandon coming in next year.
We’ve started 2 QBs in 16 of the last 21 years and we’ve started 3 in 7 of those years. We can’t have 2 scholarship QBs.Let Mac and Merk battle it out in summer camp. The problem is him wanting to negotiate every 3 months. He hasn't proved anything on the field to be doing it once, much less multiple times.Just pay Nico; everyone else is doing the same thing. If he wants more money, so be it—everyone is asking for it. Nico is much better than he gets credit for; it was mostly the wide receivers and offensive line that contributed to the issues. The results from the other QB’s on the roster is a guarantee will not be anywhere near as good. I mean if I could get 4 million instead of 2 I would do the same thing.
