Who developed Huepel when he was at OKLAHOMA?

He arrived at Oklahoma after Leach really wanted him from the Juco ranks. Then he was under the guidance of Leach as he installed the offense for Oklahoma. Leach has talked in the past about he and Heupel studying film for hours and how coachable Heupel was back then. Credited Josh's dad for teaching him how to be a football player that a coach wants to invest time in, and said he expected even then, to see Heupel coaching.

The same people who love Lane Kiffin because he is supposedly a great offensive mind would never even consider Mike Leach, and say all kinds of bad things about him in the process. Leach is a better offensive mind than Kiffin could ever imagine being. Kiffin copied people like Mike Leach and Josh Heupel. He is not an innovator. He studied people. I understand that same process cures diseases and does other great things, but let’s not pretend that he is some kind of pioneer. Kiffin is a professional video game player who was able to translate that into a career based on his father’s name.
All 3 are excellent offensive minds. I feel like Heupel is as good if not better than Kiffin without all of the BS that Kiffin brings. And if Leach were coaching here we would have plenty of fans making catchphrases out of stuff he says and some people would probably even dress up like orange pirates at games. Heck some might even use said pics as their avatars.

One thing about 2000 Oklahoma was their defense as well. Something that is missing from some of the more modern Oklahoma teams.

Heupel was kind of like Ken Dorsey at Miami, he was a solid QB but wasn't going to blow you away. Just like Dorsey, his team had talent around him, including a defense, that could help win games as long as they didn't make any major mistakes.

Heupel was damn near great his senior year. Dorsey wasn’t a Heisman runner up (and there was debate at the time whether the right guy won). Dorsey was more of a game manager while Heupel was dominant at QB.

Agreed. I think volbound is misremembering those days. Heupel was pretty widely regarded as an exceptional QB on a very good team.
