This has come up in the past but who are some of the players that deserve this, to many of us, including Justin Groves, Al Wilson is a no brainer but who are some other players that deserve this honor?

What about a guy like Joey Kent, being the leading receiver or is that a product of playing with Manning?

If Kent isn't in b/c of Manning, then Jerry Rice doesn't deserve HOF.

THREE of the following...

•Inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame
•SEC Player of the Year
•First Team All-American
•Heisman Trophy winner
•Winner of either the Sullivan Award, Draddy Award, or SEC Athlete of the Year (all sports)

....AND, THREE of the following:

•Inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame
•NFL Offensive or Defensive MVP
•FIVE Pro Bowl selections
•Own a major single season or career statistical record

Anybody who did that.

Yes, I believe, if I'm not mistaken, this is the official criteria.

Eric Berry, Al Wilson, Johnny Majors, Condrege Holloway, and maybe Beattie Feathers are guys that should have their numbers retired as far as I'm concerned.

there should only be 4 retired numbers. Retiring a jersey would be ok for the rest

So you could be a College Football hall of Famer, Heisman Winner, and 1st Team All-American but not have a good NFL career and not have your number retired?

Tim Tebow would most likely not get his number retired under that system.
1st team all-american (2 times)
Heisman
William Campbell (formerly Draddy) Trophy
SEC Offensive Player of the year.

Meets more than the 3 required parts of the college career, but unless his pro career turns out much better than expected if Florida uses the same criteria he doesn't have his number retired.

You've gotta wonder if the strict NFL requirements weren't put in there specifically to keep Johnny Majors from being eligible.

I kind of agree with this. We could do something similar to Notre Dame and hand out a card every year that details the best players that have worn their jersey number.

I do believe that there was an agenda when these criteria were created. My personal opinion is that it should be based on college performance. But I don't get a vote. Also, they could always put the guys name on a plaque or in the stadium (like they have) without actually retiring the number. I agree about only retiring 4 numbers. The four mentioned a few posts ago.

Good point, I would like to see guys honored without taking the number off the field.

those are the 4 I don't have an issue seeing the number removed. Honor the rest but let those 4 stand on their own

Sounds we have come to a consensus. Forward our request to MHF for approval. Then he will contact the AD for us.

I could maybe add Chip Kell to that list but he is in the Tennessee Hall of Fame so that serves its purpose as well.

I remember the game where they retired Manning's 16 and made Rick change numbers mid season.
