Who comes back

The geniuses on this board are astounding. You do realize that Jalen gets spied every game right? After his success last year, they're all over him now. After his first two carries and gashing Bama for like 19 yards, Foster was on him the rest of the game. I mean there are grown men on this board that do watch football, right? Do people actually think that he's a different player this year or is it that defenses game plan for him? Is Nick Chubb still injured? I mean he only had 40 yards against Vanderbilt, so I guess he's garbage now too.

Jalen will leave, go to the league, and probably switch positions as he's been battered from having no holes for 2 1/2 years.

Some of you are really sad and pathetic the way you turn on your coaches and players.

Pretty spot on in my opinion

To be honest, I see Hurd, Kamara, Barnett, Dobbs, Malone, Sutton, TK...don't think Kamara want leave and go to the NFL..Hate to say it but after that a&m game his stock has risen tremendously I would say kamara stock is higher than hurd.

Freakin cheap shot. If it was a tenth of a second later, Kamara would have had that leg firmly planted in the ground and we'd be adding him to the out for the season list. 15 yds was not nearly enough.

AV

Also the video shows no coach in the kid's ear for doing it, the late hit on Kamara was not an issue for the Bama staff low class x!;*&@)-%*"s they are.

I'm not up to speed on the algorithms under classmen with huge upside on the draft 5-7RD to UDFA bubble like J. Hurd use to decide wether to come back or not. Right now my uneducated guess is he would go 5-7rd or UDFA, but we still have half a season. He could easily improve to a 3rd rounder or higher.

He could also come back and play his way into a for sure 1st rounder.

Won't it come down to a risk vs reward scenario with a player of his dynamic?

Yes, it does. There's little reward at this point for coming back. The position, in general, along the deficiencies in this offense is just too brutal.

Get the record, play your heart out for the remainder of the season, try to get the bad taste out of your mouth due to half of the fan base turning on you for no reason, and go make good money. This offense has mentally and physically beat him down, so I expect a position change at the next level too. Why be a RB when you could be a WR or TE with actual longevity? Most RB's don't have that luxury.

I have nothing but disdain for the fan base that has turned on him.

I started following UT as a kid playing middle school football in the late 80's early 90's. Hurd has been my favorite running back to watch play at UT over the past 25 years. He's got deceptive speed. This year he has seemed a millisecond off to me, but the last two years he has reminded me of Marcus Allen the way he can make it look effortless seperating from defenders.

I think any NFL team that utilizes him outside of RB is crazy.

Contrary to some moronic vitriol(waste of down. ..) negativity that's been posted on volation lately he absolutely can cut and make the first man miss if he has a decent lane, has above average hands, and very few runners can break the first tackle and carry a pile as well as him. Not too mention he doesn't just chip block or help with a double team, that guy can flat out block.

As to RB verse TE comparison. Don't RB's make considerably more than TE's?

Hurd is just flat out a baller. I think most of UT fan base as a whole will end up reviering him.

RB's have shorter careers than TE's.

You got that right. Hurd with about 15 more pounds would be a force at TE or H back. He catches well.
He has looked his most explosive on wheel routes, where for all purposes he's an H back.

Hurd will be a great NFL back. It's sad that our OC can't have formations that will benefit his style of play. Sure would be nice to have around the goal line instead of going in shotgun on the 1.

JRM should come back by using his medical redshirt.

Think about it.... he was graded out last year as a "worst than 3rd round pick".... This season he's played in maybe a couple games, one of which he got thrown out in the first quarter for a helmet to helmet hit.

He's done nothing to up his draft stock.... if anything, it's gone down because of the injury.

He needs to come back and put more of his game on tape.

he won't be great. He'll be good. He likely won't even be a top 5 back in the draft for many of the same reasons. A lot of NFL teams use zone blocking. There are exceptions of course, but more and more running plays develop out of the shotgun, which requires backs who have a super quick first step, and great change of direction. Hurd is a great athlete, no question.

I doubt anyone with a legit shot at NFL money.
2 words. See Cam.

The same reasoning about Cam & JRM leaving last year, to which they showed up, equally applies to several of our juniors this year. Barnett, probably needs to go and does, Hurd the same, I cant imagine that youngster having to endure another season of one of his relatives routinely stabbing him in the back on social media. Hurd's draft stock and position does not change either way with another season on The Hill. Kamara stays as his draft stock significantly improves with one season being THE guy, that has been my opinion for a long time, too many good RBs this year, putting Kamara maybe in the 3rd round or later. I recall when I was mostly alone telling everyone on VN Cam would be back, Im probably in the same place this year with Kamara. Malone returns is my best guess.

Add to that, injury issues. His grade would have actually been lower had he entered, because at the time of the combine he could not have participated or passed a physical. He didn't really play this year, and it's pretty evident his shoulder was never fully healed. You can't improve your draft status by staying injured.

If he comes out, he will not be drafted.

Not a good thing to read of but I believe it to be accurate.

With one caveat. If his shoulder is fully healed by the combine and he puts up some strong numbers. Obviously that could change everything. As it stands, if he returned ibdont thunk he participates in Spring ball, therefore he also would not be combine ready.

I dont know if Kamara, Hurd or JRM have a legit shot at NFL money at this point. They would really have to ball out at the combine IMO.

I think Cam and Barnett are the only sure fire draft picks we have right now.

Wut?? Of course they do, only a matter of how much. JRM is a bit of a tweener, but he'll stick and do well in the right system. Hurd, IMHO, would be a fantastic TE in the NFL...he's an absolute natural catching the ball and would be a matchup nightmare....6'4, get to 245-250lbs, 4.5-4.6 speed...oh yeah, he'll draw NFL paychecks.

And Kamara?? Special talent running the ball, catching the ball, returning punts. Very good size, very good speed, runs with deceptive power. There's not an offense in the league that he wouldn't fit into, at a minimum as a 3rd down back. He just made himself a lot of money with that performance vs TAM.
