I was doing some offseason research (I was bored) and tried to find a list of who was a walkon and who was a scholarship player. I ran in to a dead end on this, other than looking at player bio's and sometimes they say that a player is a walkon. I couldn't find a definite list of who the scholarship players are.
Is there any place to do this for UT or any school for that matter?

No, it is actually a fairly guarded secret. Especially for guys that are awarded one year scholarships that were previously walk ons.

On any given team, there are one or two guys that you think are on scholarship that actually aren't.

Actually, it's only 84, they keep one standing by for Peyton, just in case he may still have a year of eligibility.

LWSVOL (Larry) usually knows. Maybe he can chime in or maybe someone can just post a list.

I think if we saw the list we would be surprised by how many of them are underclassmen. Players leave the program so often that it's rare to have more than 15 scholarship seniors on a team.

Who are our current walk on players? Is DeKalb County, TN's very own Will Molander still apart of the team as a walk on?

One hundred percent. Fortunately sometimes our fundraisers are able to help them out a bit. My grandpa still rants after a few adult beverages about 'helping the UT family (4th generation now)' by writing a check to help pay Monte Kiffins 300k bonus days before they left. :bad: Well he did get a 09 Chick Fil A Bowl gift package mailed to him.. :)

Walk-ons change a lot during the summer. Many that are there in the spring are not in the fall and there are many new ones. Usually September before it all shakes out as far as walk-ons.

Thanks, LWS!

Only real surprise to me is that Nate Renfro (punter, graduate transfer this summer from Maryland, spending his last year of eligibility with his home state team) isn't on scholarship. Surprised he'd pay his own way for the transfer. But didn't see him on the scholarship list.

If a current scholarship player were to come off scholarship then he might end up on scholarship.. plenty of time for that to happen..

there is no guarantee that he is a factor at punter either. So maybe he ends up not staying on team

31 P Nathan Renfro 6'1'' 205 SR TN

Renfro transferred in from Maryland. He has got to be added to total and Bullock or Giampapa removed.

Just saying!!

A few of our walk-ons are legitimate contributors, too! Like Patrick Ashford, of fake FG pass for touchdown fame ... and Joe Stocstill, at TE. So some good kids to keep an eye out for as scholarships open up in coming months.

He doesn't have to be added unless Butch is willing to give him a scholarship. I seriously doubt he removes either of those you mentioned from scholarship to give Nate one.

My guess is it will work itself out and someone will give up scholarship on their own for him to get one before season starts. At this point Butch has made no announcement at all that he is on scholarship.

George Bullock
Matt GiampapaOne of these must be removed from list .

yeah, I think Bullock is on scholarship and Giampapa not. There was a big deal made about Lovinggood being offered a scholarship as a long snapper because it doesn't happen often.

Renfro said TN was his dream school. But, I agree, I don't see him transferring and giving up a scholarship to pay his own way somewhere else.

Ralph Abernathy IV, He graduated at Cincinnati with 1 year of eligibility left. Transferred to Tennessee on scholarship eligible immediately.

Abernathy IV was on the list as being on scholarship.!!

Well, no, he doesn't have to be. Each and every recruitment is unique. Broad similarities may mask significant differences when seen more closely. Which we don't have the information to do.

Look, I trust LWS and therefore his list. Seems for some reason Renfro hasn't yet been offered a scholarship, but could in the future if/as his ability to contribute becomes more apparent. I'm good with that. Was just surprised not to see him on the list, that's all.
