Who actually hires the AD?

1. Who hires the AD?
2. Why are people saying we can't hire an OC until an AD is in place?
3. For some reason, I assumed you can have an Interim AD. Do we have one in place??

3. Actually, we don't need one. Hart is still serving as AD. Had they not announced his retirement until this spring, there would be less problem with making coaching hires right now. But since he did, it has created a big snafu.

2. Good coaches want to know they are walking into a stable situation. Just as recruits change their commitments with a coaching change, getting a coach is lots easier if a long term AD is there to show stable leadership.

1. Whoever it is, they need to accelerate it. Once Davenport gets herself down here, it will probably go before a damn committee.

Some on here amaze me. There was never any way that an AD was going to be hired without input from the Chancellor. She will be the AD's boss. She should absolutely take part in this process. That is after all part of her job.

Well, she needs to impress the Hell outta everyone and set the wheels in motion. She can interview via teleconference if she can't be here. It's the 21st century, use the technology.

And don't get caught on camera scratching her brains through her nostril. That isn't asking too much is it?

That's just cryptic enough to generate about 5 more pages of redneck frenzy.

Hmmmm. What is worse? 5 pages of redneck frenzy, or one moment of your Al Jazeera admiration?

No, I am not letting that go.

I don't know the details of her employment - She hasn't officially started so from an employment standpoint not sure if she can officially do that or not.

Technology is great but this is not about technology but about the process.

Maybe the new firm is supposed to find a female AD.

Or maybe the first firm was used and didn't produce more than one candidate - thus using a second firm.

Or maybe there wasn't even a first search.

Or maybe she wants to avoid the perceived conflict of interest with using the same firm that was used by UTC to hire their coach and used by UT to hire her.

Good points. I haven't heard any women's names being brought up. I was just thinking outside the box. I wouldn't be surprised if they did at least interview a female.

Years ago I promoted the idea that Pat would have been a great AD, still hold to that given her love for the institution, knew the major donors, was well respected, and was a tenacious competitor. So being female is not a deal breaker for me and I'm confident we have females who have been attached to the institution that would do well in that job and would have my support to this day. What won't get my support is a PC type hire, hell bent on turning the UTAD into a PC laboratory, and has zero connections to the institution and places winning lower down the list of priorities.
