Not at all. I've only stressed that you don't act a fool in ****ty neighborhoods.

When did I ever imply that the beating was justified? Am I surprised it happened? No. Could it have been avoided? Yes. Were the children justified in their actions? No.

I have and will. I'm all for putting the poor to work so long as they show up and do their job.

I had homeless former carpenters, electricians, and painters working on my houses in Knoxville. Sometimes, it would work out, sometimes it wouldn't.

At least I wasn't just posting threads on VN about how problematic they are.

Again, point out where I've once excused anyone for using violence here?

Mav's got the perps covered. I've been robbed before. While I wish I could have put a bullet in the backs of the guys that did it, I understand that I should have seen it coming for living in East Knox instead of campus with no security system just to save a few hundred a month.

My apologys. Wasn't trying to imply you making excuses. Just the as a whole on the subject seems to be a trend.

Ie: poor, uneducated ,society, etc

They also didn't show up on time, if at all.

They also drank on the job (in excess, anyway).

They also squatted in the houses after the day's work was done.

I knew all of this, and took the proper precautions.

So to speak, I didn't honk the horn. I just drove through the hood in an APC.

No, you are completely correct; but should a bad decision consisting of checking one's vehicle for damage before attempting to drive be a bad decision worthy of getting attacked by a small mob? Common sense says no. My guess is that he used common sense, and figured that attacking his car was enough for the youths - obviously he was wrong, as it appears they wanted blood.

Was it harsh and a little over the top? Yeah, I'll give you that. But I care less about being PC than about pointing out the problem and finding a solution. If there is a group of people (again, ethnicity being irrelevant) who believe that it is okay to go around and beat on people for no good reason, until shown that it is a bad idea (whether by police/jail or by retribution at the time of the attack), they have no reason to think otherwise.

It's like having a child touch a stove-top. Until they learn that it is hot, and that it really hurts, they have no motivation to NOT touch it.

I think that is great, and more need to do it. Give those in need an opportunity; give them something to grab onto to help pull themselves out of the economic (and other) hole that they are in. While we disagree on some of the issues at play in the OP, I think we are in complete agreement with this. Good on you man. :thumbsup:

The key thing with these PC people is not to blow your horn in the HOOD or get out of car..should have known better! Thus the man put his family in danger

Lets say this happened in Gatlinburg ..and a group of white kids did this to a black family from NYC
