I love this program and will continue to love it through the misery associated with its on-the-field performance over much of my adult life...but even I realize this program is a very tough sell. Some of you do not want to admit it, and have a very sheltered, and biased view of it, but it is not an easy job. Why would a recruit choose us over Alabama, Florida, Ohio State, Georgia, Clemson, or other similar schools in our immediate recruiting territory? Outside of our immediate recruiting territory, why would a kid from Texas choose us over Texas, Texas A&M, or Oklahoma? Why would a kid from the western US choose us over the top programs out there? Why would a kid from the upper midwest choose us over the top programs there? Or if the kid is willing to leave those other areas of the country, and is a top recruit, why would they choose us over all the other schools in our area that I mentioned earlier? Quite frankly, you have to wonder how we got recruits to come here over some of those programs. I think we are finding out. With the NCAA now on the horizon, I wonder why a coach would come here to try to recruit against them with the additional handcuffs that will most likely be placed upon them? Not an easy job and certainly not a job a successful coach is going to leave their current program for....or if they are at a smaller program then why not wait for a better job to open up?
