Whit Babcock, Va. Tech AD, may have interest in Butch.

We're all a little mad now aren't we? How is me saying that Jones will win 10 games next year being delusional? I basically said he'd win 9 or 10 next year and then trend down. How in the hell is that any more delusional than those that think he's going to consistently win 10+ games every year?

Just a matter of perspective. I'm not saying I'm right. I'm not saying you are right. Only time will tell. I'm just giving my best guess from the sample I've saw. He's going to win out this year most everyone is going to go nuts. Then next year as soon as he loses the excuse mongers will be back out in full force with an entire new batch of crap. If I'm wrong I am sure I'll hear about it as we erect the 12 foot statue to our lord and savior outside of Neyland after we win the SEC next year.

And I'm the one that's mad?

Can Butch coach both teams when they play each other>

That job is a HUGE step down.

Unless Butch is feeling some heat, which he isn't from the people that matter ( the ones who make those decisions are relatively sane -so we would hope).

I can't think of a single reason he would even consider it with the exception of more money. I can't see VT insulting a living legend by paying Butch more than TN does or Beamer ever made...

I don't want Butch to go. I think the silent majority would agree.

However, if for only a second we let our mind wander that he might - this job is more appealing now than probably at any point since Fulmer snuck in. The team is on the brink of being loaded with talent. Coaches would be coming out of the woodwork for the job. We are night and day different from a facilities and talent perspective than before Kiffin and Doolittle were hired. But Butch is our guy and he isn't going anywhere...

3.6 mil a year is alot of f#cking big macks!

Seriously though you said earlier Tennessee is not a top job anymore, I think you even said its not even top 10 in the conference(may be wrong there) but if thats the case why in the hell should Tennessee pay top job money for middle of the road results?

You're just making stuff now. I never said either of those. I said TN fans always like to think we're a top job when it comes to coaching searches. History has proven that outsiders have viewed our program very differently than diehard TN fans. I also said Butch was the 10th highest paid coach out of 13 in the SEC who disclose coaching salaries.

So how much will we be paying him by the time we get a SEC or National championship?

And i promise, if Jones leaves because 3.6 mil isnt enough for an 8-4 season, then I would gladly see him get a foot to his ass.

I'm not advocating we give Butch a million dollar raise. The truth is however that he remains one of the lowest paid coaches in the SEC. He has done a remarkable job of rebuilding our program. Those things merit a raise even its small, as a token of support from the AD that we appreciate what he's doing. Support is 2 way street. You show your appreciation and support now, and Butch never considers leaving.

Relationships 101: You don't wait until you piss your girlfriend off to buy her flowers. You're working from behind at that point. She's always looking over her shoulder waiting for you mess up again and she's more likely to cheat on you. You buy her flowers for no reason at all. You hold her hand, open car doors, show her you care for her - so she's always thankful for how well you treat her. Treat a woman like that and she'll trust you and stand by your side.

He got a raise last year for 6 regular season wins. I'm fine with giving him a raise if we win 10+ next year. Until then his paltry 3.6 million should do.

Tennessee would be more desirable than any job save USC right now and it's not close.

Edit: It should go without saying, but by USC, I mean the Trojans. Also, if Georgia opens up, it would be comparable, maybe slightly ahead.

Finish Second in the SEC East and he sould atleast be in the top 7 paid coaches in the SEC. Let's get real, he is still under paid in the SEC.

Second in the SEC East may not even get us ranked in the top 25. The East sucks this year. The money will come for him if he produces on the field against the teams that matter. He beat one this year. That is a start. I would like to see a contract that was $3 million base and a million dollar bonus for beating Bama, Florida and UGA. Beat all three and you make $6 million.

Butch should not get another raise for just one 10 win season. He shouldnt have gotten one for 6 wins. Now, if he wins 10 games for 2-3 seasons then that will be enough for a raise.

I agree that TN would NOW be one of the most desirable jobs, but during our last two coaching searches it wasn't. It was a dumpster fire with minimal talent left behind and a horrible AD in Mike Hamilton. The reason UT is now a more desirable job? Any coach can see the talent we have and think, "I can win with that."

Who recruited that talent? Who convinced those 5 star athletes to come to UT, a school that hadn't won more than 7 games in 8 years? ....

Butch.

Not withstanding personal views of his coaching ability, He is the reason TN is once again relevant. It's another reason that progress isn't only measured in wins and losses.

I actually agree, I said I'd be fine with it as in I would understand. An extension or raise after this season would be lunacy.

The only reason he would go to work for his old boss at Cincy would be someone of importance at Tennessee is after him. Stranger things have happen. Kiffin for one.

I actually would put us ahead of both programs on a desirable coaching list outside of our history of low balling coaches on salary. Outside of that we have a superior stadium, facilities, fan base, and we have the highest recruiting budget in the nation currently. We are built for success. Just need the right guy to come in and properly use the resources. And I think Butch is the right guy, and I hope he finishes strong this year and we close with a strong recruiting class for team 120.

He wins 10 games without a raise and you can kiss him goodbye, Tennessee needs to quit lowballing coaches and expecting them to stay loyal to the program. Pay up or shut up or we will be back to barely making a bowl again. Coaching changes and salaries are what found us Kiffin and Dooley. Need I say more?
