While you guys are being Debra Downers, we're up to 21 on Rivals

Newsflash: when every team in the conference is ranked so highly, being "10th" doesn't matter so much. The conference is, for the most part, very tightly packed.

My point went right by you. We where on par with Arky and Auburn and both those schools filled more needs with better talent then we did. We really needed to beat those teams out for players and we didn't. So what's the excuse for it?

Why dont you go root for Arky or the barn if you think they did so good. I hate all this nega vol bull. Butch Jones hasnt even coached a game and its like you think we will finish last in the sec this year. Lets see how it goes before we really bash this coach/team. I for one will be there win or lose.

Those two are mutually exclusive. 21st in the polls means at least 8 wins...4-5 in the SEC. Would you be complaining?

10th in the SEC never equates to 21st in the polls. Division, conference and then the national polls take care of themselves.

You're right, we suck. There's no excuse whatsoever. We'll never be good again. No school ever has a spell like what we've had and recovers from it. And the worst thing - my life is ruined. My every happiness depends exclusively on where 17-18 year olds sign, what our final Rivals ranking is, how many games we win. (Even those f'ing Commodes were a spot ahead of us on Rivals.) Nothing else really matters because I'm a manly Vol fan, and manly Vol fans put the big orange over everything in their life. They expect - no, they demand the best. After all, it's THEIR Tennessee Volunteers. CDD let us down - he's dogmeat. CBJ wasn't who I wanted, and he didn't pull a relevant class, so he sucks too. And Saban, Myer, Muschamp - all those guys cheat. And all those kids who didn't pick us - screw 'em. They were overrated anyway, and will grow up to be drunkards and slackards since they decided not to be a VFL. And our administration sucks. I will never support the school again.

God what a bunch of losers.

It's never ending, Jones pulls this class and it's a failure. If Jones had pulled Bell it still wouldn't be a success. If Jones pulled a top 5 class and then losses a few games next year it's a failure since he obviously can't coach up good players. If Jones wins the SEC east then loses the SECCG he blew it in the big game. If Jones goes undefeated and loses the NC? You guessed it, fail. If we fire him, hire Saban, pull the top recruiting class, win every game and end up National Champions, I guarantee someone here would find a reason why it isn't good enough. It is the one constant on this board. I'm all about expecting the very best out of our team, but to demand perfection in every facet of the football program is the definition of unrealistic. Not to mention our brand isn't the easiest to sell right now.

We're at #20 on Rivals. It's like 99G said, it's not the great class that we needed to signal a turnaround. We feel like we are still waiting, and we are tired of waiting. No disrespect to any of our recruits is intended by saying this; we did need a few more top players to feel good about where we are right now.

the other 10 sec teams ahead of us.

This guy gets it^

the way Auburn out recruited us and then V Bell going to Ohio State..... well just leaves me with a NEW sinking feeling in the gut.

It is a sad day on Rocky Top when we are out recruited by Vandy, let alone what Auburn did to us

This class is a good class, but you cannot compete in the SEC unless you have great recruiting....check where we landed in the SEC for best measuring stick...that is who we have to compete with

Just posted in another thread that I like this class. Don't love it but like it. Now having said that, we better love next years or Butch is all talk. Time will tell.

I am right there...to early to call him a failure, and you certainly can't do that based on one class(especially the first year), but I am not ready to crown him successful yet either..........Time Will Tell :hi:

Why cant all the "strawberries and champagne" type fans just admit that yes, they did a tremendous job considering the circumstances, BUUUUUUUUUUT, that they indeed feel a bit disappointed by this class. I mean, come on guys, are you REALLY that happy with this class? Be honest with yourselves. Of course we arent going to be perfectionists in every phase, but you have to start somewhere. Fact is we needed a player or 2 like a Lawson, Bell or Ford. THATS REALITY.

I think most rational posters would agree with this. Most expected one of the three and didn't get it, but that is because the coaching staff expected the same.

With that being said, I am still happy with the work bUTch has put in and look forward to football season and next year. If he keeps up this much intensity for '14 recuiting and the 13' season, I think we will end up being very happy this time next year.

I agree, you're absolutely right! I really do believe our 2014 class will be the next Ole Miss 2013 class IF they continue to do what they have done so far, and all the pieces fall into place!

Awesome.

You only forgot to add Gruden to summarize. All those clowns are either gone to another site to gather or moaning about recruiting.
CBJ asked for fans to show UT pride and stay positive. The staff is attacking in new recruiting areas in our own state that have no loyalty to UT and can help rebuild the program. Negativity hurts the program and anyone who can't see that is the fool of fools. Coaches wouldn't continue to say it if it wasn't true.

Oh wow! We ended up ranked that high? We almost did as well as vandy. Wo hoo!

yeah, after 3 of the worst seasons in UT history, our coach in a month is right where Vandy while Vandy is at it's peak in their football history. And USC and GA are losing 1 recruit away from being right there with them and us.

He has to say "stay positive" because NOTHING has been positive for about 5 years now. He KNOWS a lot of fans are grumbling and not happy with the results of this class. Why else would he have to remind everybody to think roses? I am very content with this class. Top 20 considering the circumstances, Ill take it! But, I think deep down Butch knows he failed to really get things jumpstarted with a splash.

For a University that hasn't finished in the polls in the top 25 in like 8 years, I'd say that even breaking in the top 25 in recruiting is a pretty amazing feat. Give Butch a year and he will do fine. He will be a great coach despite what some people think.

Exactly. If we beat Vandy or Mizzou as we should have, we have the same exact record as Ole Piss and go to a bowl game.

Which we didn't, so what's your point?

They have decades and decades of mediocrity at their back and a symbol of resistance to slave emancipation, as their moniker/mascot. Either they are indeed buying themselves a top 10 class, or they just outclassed our staff, on the recruiting trail.

Which is it? Are you qualified, and do you have the proof, to say one way or the other? If not, then you're just waving your arms and making noise by asserting that our coaching staff was outclassed.

Again...if a coach is going to say "We're going to hire the best staff in the country," you can't put Janzek's record (coaching and equally important, recruiting) up against Shannon's and say you hired the best. That's just a lie. You were given a fat budget to do so, and instead you just brought in your old staff and gave them all that money, as a fat pay raise.

Do you know what context is? By "best staff in the nation", I understood CBJ to mean that he was going to hire the best staff in the nation to install his offense and make it a success at UT. Part of that is going and getting the people who he is comfortable as employees under him, who know what he is trying to do it and how he plans on doing it...

It's a bit half-cocked to judge their recruiting efforts with 2 months to do it, and considering CDD's lost ground and burnt bridges. It's not even half-cocked to judge the staff before they've even coached a game at UT.

I've seen your "pay raise" comment several times. Exactly what do you have against our staff being paid more than they were at their last job? I've gotten a raise every time I have ever switched jobs. I don't feel dirty for having done so.

Because they havent proven themselves at UT yet, thats why Jones shouldnt have given them the raises. Its like the Mike Hamilton syndrome has scarred this administration for life.

UGA only signed one of the top thirteen players in the state. Their fans are up in arms here as well even though they finished with a top ten class.

He's a competitor. Of course he wished it had gone better on a few where we came 2nd.

There was a get together last night with local supporters and lettermen. The enthusiasm and vibe is changing. Focus on the state in recruiting hasn't been like this since Fulmer's best days. While many people are working to help the program rebuild, others choose to not help, or actually hinder progress.
I think each fan should figure out which category they are in.
