LOL WTF has happened to us and our fan base. Oh, by the way everyone the beers on me lets celebrate about being 21st in this class while 10 other SEC teams, which are already better then us, get even better while we really make few improvements. This isn't out of frustration it's out of love for this school and the facts are we are tanking. Everyone is recruiting against us and we have no counter. What's Ole Miss done that's so special in last five years? Yea, they win 8 or 9 games but that doesn't justify them landing what they landed today. Auburn was horrid this year, but they seam to be moving right along. Facts are we settle for mediocrity at UT. Our fan base is beginning to settle for it, and Hart and Cheek have settled for it when it comes to sports. I pray, and I mean pray, CBJ is a great fundamentals coach. I pray he wins some games this year, or TN is doomed with the way the SEC is building around us. CBJ lost his first battle at UT. Auburn and Arky both replaced their coaches this year and both coaches out recruited, out smarted, and out maneuvered our coaching staff, PERIOD! We knew we needed a head coach and we ding donged off and waited and it was time wasted. Sure, we got North, Dobbs, and Carr. Let's celebrate because as we celebrate about 8 other SEC schools just landed 10+ elite players to their team. Our few elite players simply fill the void left by our seniors or juniors that left. We sure didn't build any depth we elite players because guys like North and Carr will have to play immediately due to lack of quality depth.

Wtf do you expect? Class full of 5* and ranked in the top half of the SEC? Clueless!!!!

I don't know if any of you had followed any of my strength of recruiting analysis.

Long story short, there is a very strong correlation between a four year trailing average recruiting result, and success on the field.

With the classes we have had on hand, UT should have posted a record of 9-3 last year, if coached properly. A historical analysis though shows that Dooley under-performed with his talent on hand every year as a head coach (not limiting that to his tenure at UT).

The good news is this: if we finish the day at 21 (give or take) our strength of talent as indicated by said four year trailing recruiting average, does not change in relation to the rest of the SEC more than 1 game.

The best news is this: Butch Jones has ALWAYS either met or exceeded his recruited talent's expectations, sometimes by as much as 50%.

Even if our talent average dropped more than one game, Jones has the historical ability to motivate and out perform much more talented teams.

The bottom line is that going from a mid forties ranked class to a top 25 ranked class in a month is impressive, while losing on some of the huge fish is a disappointment.

Those two are mutually exclusive. 21st in the polls means at least 8 wins...4-5 in the SEC. Would you be complaining?

But you're throwing out a hypothetical that doesn't apply.

If you play in the SEC, finishing 21st in recruiting does not equate to finishing 21st in the polls. It equates to finishing 10th in the SEC with a mediocre to losing record.

No, you are clueless. What I expect is to be relevant. I'm not asking for top 10 classes right now, but I am asking for us to close on guys that we need. Auburn did it. Arky did it. Heck, Ole Miss, read that again I did just say OLE MISS, did it. You can't let guys like Vonn Bell, Derrick Green, etc throw you under the bus and not have some very good player waiting on a phone call to commit here. You have to have a solid back up plan. We live in a false hope here in Knoxville. Don't parade me with BS statistics of CBJ offense the last six years etc. It's big boy football now CBJ. You just got a taste of reality. If you are going to put all your eggs in one basket aka Vonn Bell, Derrick Green, Ford, Bellamy, Lawson, etc you better land at least 50% of them. We landed two today, Dobbs and North. That's about a 15-20% success rate on elite players. That isn't going to get it done unless every guy we offer is an elite player, which won't happen, Bama can't even pull that off. I mean see it for what it is people. We have a RB that was committed to ECU that's the sleeper of the century to some of you guys lol. We got a TE who's a volleyball player that no one wanted. You are clueless to expect greatness from players who would be nothing more then role players at best for a great team.

You're going to judge his recruiting off 2 mths? He did what he had to do in the time he had. He made it better than what he inherited. Sure, he could've filled it out with 2 stars from Cinci but he didn't. Judge him and this program a year from now when he's had a full year of coaching and recruiting. Fair enough??

My point went right by you. We where on par with Arky and Auburn and both those schools filled more needs with better talent then we did. We really needed to beat those teams out for players and we didn't. So what's the excuse for it?

No, he actually did it at Ole Miss who have had zero relevance since Eli left. Ole Miss is horrible when it comes to tradition, yet with lesser facilities and power they still find ways to pull at top 7-8 class. CBJ isn't going to do that next year. We will be luck to be 7-5 team next year. Our schedule is brutal and we have no proven defense or QB.

I wonder what some of you would think about the class if we signed Bell today. I wish we had got him, and I was as disappointed as anyone. Other than Bell what has happened today to surprise any of us. Most people felt like Boyd would go with Pitt and Bellamy would go with Ga. Everyone is comparing us with Auburn, but Auburn is a different situation. CGM was there two years ago he coached Cam Newton, they won a NC three years ago. He probably started a relationship with these prospects when they were jr's. I'm sorry to say this but they are a better program right now, even though they had a horrible season. I am really happy with our class. Guys it could have been a lot worse.

Exactly. If we beat Vandy or Mizzou as we should have, we have the same exact record as Ole Piss and go to a bowl game.

They have decades and decades of mediocrity at their back and a symbol of resistance to slave emancipation, as their moniker/mascot. Either they are indeed buying themselves a top 10 class, or they just outclassed our staff, on the recruiting trail.

Again...if a coach is going to say "We're going to hire the best staff in the country," you can't put Janzek's record (coaching and equally important, recruiting) up against Shannon's and say you hired the best. That's just a lie. You were given a fat budget to do so, and instead you just brought in your old staff and gave them all that money, as a fat pay raise.

We were never on par with Auburn. I don't make excuses for him, but now is not the time to judge him as a recruiter or coach. Have we not out recruited Vandy every year prior to this one? Why is there team better right now?

He did that because he feels comfortable with them, and in the end it could either make CBJ or break him. It tanked us on the recruiting trail because no one knows who we are. UT doesn't even have an identity anymore, and CBJ didn't do a good job persuading recruits on what he thought his vision of UT would be under him. Great coaches are great business men as well. They could sale a lace thong to a 400 pound women and make her believe she'd be the sexiest woman to every where them.
