We ran for 128.3 ypg in 2005. I think it's barely over 100 this year, at times it's been below that. Foster had over 879 yards in 2005, while only starting 5 games. He's got less than 500 so far this year.

113.5 is this years rypg. Either way its unacceptable. The giveaways was the largest difference statistically between the 2 teams, thats why i cast my vote for 2005.

Who did we score on ? UCLA, UAB, and MS ST(14 from the defense).
The argument about the offenses should be mute.

According to ESPN it's 104.6 ypg rushing this year.

Just how painful is this thread? It's like deciding which of the Golden Girls you'd rather take home.

A better stat would be offensive points per game. Both of these squads scored quite a few defensive points.

'05: 21 otd + 14 FG =168 over 11 games or 15.3ppg
'08: 16 otd + 8FG = 120 over 9 games or 13.3ppg

I left off extra points because it is difficult to tell what is attributable to an offensive or defensive score.

oh haha, I thought you were giving the finger to statistics in general by asking for those stats.

The best breakdown of Clausen vs. Stephens with no spin involved on the stats reads....
Before the USC game, Stephens QB rating is 123.96 while Clausen's was 119.07. Clausen's completion pct. was 57.4 while Stephens was 51.5

The 05 team averaged 18.6 ppg while giving up 18.6 ppg
The 08 team averages 18.4 ppg while giving up 17.6 ppg

Lucas Taylor's punt return ability was pretty suspect in '05, he had 13 for 80 yards. If i remember correctly he had 2 fumbles on PR that year. The biggest one being at Florida.
what is the average if you take away the Berry, Morley, and McKenzie's pick 6s?

Dunno, JWade had a pick6 in 05(he actually had another but was marked down at the 1).
Hefney had a Pick6 agaisnt LSU that year also..

I don't know, the 05 season was so devastating because we were picked 3 in the preseason. Everyone expected an SEC championship and we were in the basement instead.

That's why I took offensive tds plus fgs over games played; it eliminates defensive tds from both years. It is fairly impossible to reconstruct how many points on either team were scored after the defense put them in a good position without doing a lot more work than I am willing to do.

I am satisfied that the '05 offense was horrible, and the '08 offense is worse.

This is funny how you can actually argue that '05 was worse. The defense in '05 was much much better atleast at the D-line and LBs.. stats don't always show that.

We could have easily won several of the games specifically Bama/USC/Vandy. The first two we lost due to fumbles into the endzones resulting in touchbacks and we choked at the last minute vs. Vandy and couldn't stop them.

There were also a couple of pretty questionable penalties that went in Vandy's favor right at the end.

Good lord people.......You are arguing who would win the pillow fight between the '05 and '08 teams.. Really??? IT'S 90-4 right now saying '08 is worse... It is safe to say it's pretty much true.

If the two teams could play id say the the only way the 08 team scores would be on defense, the 05 team would still find a way to keep the game close all the way down to the final minute of the game despite being superior in nearly every way.

At the least the '05 offense could move the ball at times. This year's offense couldn't move the ball against a team of midgets. Watching the offense try to score is like watching a man with no limbs try to climb a ladder. Painful...just painful.

'08 is much worse than '05. But they have more than the horrible records in common, they are both teams that were without Cutcliffe as OC. Fulmer used Cutcliffe as his crutch and without him, he just limps around on the sideline without a clue.

05 becase we were preseason top 5
02 was the season that was really the downslide for the vols IMO.
