On a preaseaon basis, I would consider Southern Miss, Vandy, and Kentucky, to be upsets if you lost to one of them. The others are on the same tier as UT and until the season is underway I don't think you can say losing to Alabama, for example, is an "upset."

The fact that you can say that -- leaving 9 out of the 12 teams we face as being "on the same tier" as us -- and not be completely wrong is evidence enough of how far our program has fallen.

Arkansas. I know they lost a bunch of players, but the two players that killed us the most, McFadden and Monk, are both back. Their o-line will be weaker, but its not like our d-line is a force. Plus Monk will be dancing through a brand new secondary.

Cal and Bama would be considered close, pick'em type games and therefore not upsets.

Take those out, most likely to upset us would be South Carolina.

All of the games listed would be considered by the vast mojority of the public as an upset.

The only team I would consider capable of beating us on that list is Cal since it's the first game and on the left coast.

I'd say Arkansas, they literally ran us into the ground last year in Fayetteville.

They still have McFadden and Jones, and beating us in Knoxville would definetly be an upset.

I agree with vol in ar ... ark controlled the line last year and spanked us with mcfag and felix, who are both back this year. They are going to give us trouble again this year

We may benefit from a few key losses on Arky's line and a new offensive coordinator, but if McFadden's healthy that late in the season, he's going to see alot of touches.

Let's take this one point by point. They beat the hell out of us last year. They have 2 of the best running backs in the country. Losing to said team would be an upset for them in what way? You will have to clarify that one for me.

i think if the defense steps it up and doesnt give stupid plays that we will be in good shape at a run to the national championship

I don't think Cal would be or an upset. Neither do I for Bama since it is a true rivalry. To me, we have been flirting with disaster too much with Kentucky!!

I couldnt agree more. We were one play away from losing to Ky last year, and without a terrific tackle by Mitchell behind the LOS we would have lost

Ky plays its best against us, and we generally phone in our game against them

My feeling is UT is going to be expected to defeat Alabama and Cal.

Fulmer has a better group of returning players then Saban and Saban is in the process of introducing a new system. Fulmer did a much better job recruiting then Alabama the last 4 years. IMO he has to be favored to win.

After the lopsided win last season, and Cal losing some key players to graduation, again UT is going to be favored to win.

Again its arguing over semantics. The schedule this year is favorable. The only 2 teams on this schedule that UT has been struggling with is GA and FL and UT has won 2 out of 3 at GA.

Excellent points. Agreed.

We're 12-2 against Arkansas, and we're playing at home with an experienced QB, Arkansas lost there best QB, one of their best recievers, their offensive coordinator, their best defensive back, and a defensive end who was drafted in the top 10..

All they have is McFadden, so we should be able to stop him..

So if they beat us at home, it's an upset..

UT has won 2 out of 3 at GA.

Unfortunately uga has won 3 out of 3 at Neyland. I cant handle it going to four losses in a row to them at Neyland. That game and the Florida game seem to make or break our season. If we win, we have a shot to overcome the more-often-then-not florida loss. We lose that game, our fate is not in our hands.
