He couldn't find a damn QB. Every season he'd get beat by Bama because they'd just stop their run game. Had elite WRs too.

Neither can we. But guess what the difference is? Miles won at a high level in the much tougher SEC west. Why do sme of you put so much emphasis on QB play?

Majors "deserted" Pitt for Tennessee after Dorset won them the Natty. Then went back to Pitt after he was fired here.

Doug Dickey "deserted" coaching Tennessee for his alma mater, Florida without the same success. He then returned to Tennessee and was Athletic Director over the most successful VOLS run in modern history to the Natty.

Lane Kiffin's dream job always was USC. And he told everyone that. When it came open, they offered and he took it.

Guys, it ain't desertion.
It's BUSINESS.

Cool story. But he's not an SEC retread which is the basis of this poll

Which would be the better recruiter? I think Sumlin would because of Miles's age. By year 2 recruits would be worried about Les retiring.

Yeah but you'd do the same thing if you would have been in his shoes. If I were coaching the NE Patriots and UT called I would be out of Foxboro before the echo of my scream faded.

I'm just saying that's why he's excluded from this poll. I could change the title to be "former SEC head coaches" if it'd make you happy

I personally can't comprehend how people can consider Lane Kiffin a better coach than Les Miles, or Sumlin for that matter. I think people are enamored with his attitude and is blinded from his actual accomplishments. He's had 2 good seasons as a head coach. His year at UT and this year at FAU. And those seasons are bouyed by the staff he has. Had a great staff under him at UT, and this year Kendall Briles is really the key to that offense. Kiffin is just the face. Yes, he had sanctions at USC, but even given the players he had on those teams he still under-performed. The guy is a troll, and I think he's trolling UT's fan base now.

Briles is running a Kiffin designed offense.

Lane Kiffin’s FAU is one of college football’s most entertaining teams - SBNation.com

He's the most capable offensive coach. He needs a defensive coordinator.

Kiffin with Martin......two great recruiters, and you get the coach of the future.

But I would take Miles with Steele
and also take Sumlin........be really stoked if he could get Steele or Martin (prob Kiffin only one who could bring Martin for OC)

Don't think I would ever want a head coach that specializes in offense but has had abysmal offenses most of his career

If you could get Kiffin AND Tee (or Steele) combo do you worry as much about him chasing another job? I think the risk is mitigated by having a VFL to step into the role if what happened in ‘09 repeated itself.

That said I would happily take Sumlin or Miles over the first 7 targets.
