Which of these 1st week games is upset

I think Charlie Strong will put a good product on the field this season, he better at any rate. I dont have a lot of respect for Notre Dame and Kelly, I see this going the Longhorns way. Ole Miss may get the Seminoles as well, that's a tough opener for both teams IMO.

Kelly is a very good coach but agree with you concerning ND. Texas should have the talent to upset them and Strong is most definitely coaching for his job.

Personally, I think Ole Miss may be overhyped. They're replacing their top two WR's and top RB. Elston is a big blow to their secondary. They're rebuilding the OL. And their DL losses are well known.

Overall, only tOSU returns fewer starters than Ole Miss among power 5 programs. Four on O and 5 on D. IMHO, their hype comes down to Kelly who will bear even more of the burden of their O this year.

It doesn't appear that their recruiting has been consistent enough to just plug new guys in. Even if their new starters were as good as the old starters, which isn't the case, they still have to be concerned with the quality of their experienced depth.

I am picking the Heels over the Bulldogs in the dome. I predict Vandy will beat South Carolina but is that really an upset? Carolina looks to have a horrid season. :bad:

What if...

Tennessee escapes a scare from App State?
Kansas State upsets Stanford in Palo Alto?
Houston does defeat OK?
LSU looks lethargic against Wisconsin?
UCLA demolishes TAMU?
UGA manages to get the win vs UNC, but loses one or more key players to injury?
Bama looks bad vs USC, escaping with a W on a controversial call?
Clemson emotionally scars Auburn with an epic beat down?
Notre Dame loses to Texas?
Fla State escapes Ole Miss on a broken play a la MSU-Michigan 2015?

Neither of those would really be considered an upset. I'm not sure why they were included in the OP.

I say Houston over Oklahoma

1. App State @ #9 UT
2. Kan State @ #11 Stanford
3. #3 Okla. vs #12 Houston
4. #6 LSU vs Wisky
5. #24 UCLA @ T A&M
6. #20 UNC vs #22 UGA
7. #2 Bama vs #19 USC w
8. #1 Clemson @ Auburn
9. #9 Notre Dame @ Texas
10. #4 Fla State vs #14 Ole Miss

I think there's a chance UGA upsets UNC.

I say Houston over Oklahoma

1. App State @ #9 UT Vols big
2. Kan State @ #11 Stanford Stanford comfortably
3. #3 Okla. vs #12 Houston OU by two scores
4. #6 LSU vs Wisky LSU by about 10
5. #24 UCLA @ T A&M TAM but close, not much of an upset
6. #20 UNC vs #22 UGA UGA but not an upset either way
7. #2 Bama vs #19 USC w Bama
8. #1 Clemson @ Auburn Clemson but close
9. #9 Notre Dame @ Texas Texas
10. #4 Fla State vs #14 Ole Miss FSU and maybe by enough to have ESPN declaring the SEC's superiority over

In my opinion.....

Y'all are going to think I'm against LSU, and I'm not, but just pointing out a few things.

This is their first year of putting in the 3-4 D, and they lost their most experienced DL guy, LaCouture. Their next experienced guy, Bower, penciled in at multiple positions, has been hobbled by injuries in August camp. They have one solid experienced LB, Beckwith and a lot of raw green talent there around him. Duke Riley is penciled in to start at ILB, yes, a senior ... with one career start (I think our Bynum has more?). DBs pretty good, WRs pretty good ... but a 53% passer would have to get them the ball ... if their stubborn unimaginative coach even calls a pass play. Because he'd rather go with their bell-cow RB Fournette, an excellent RB ... who has missed multiple days of August camp (currently out) with an ankle sprain. We don't really know how bad, because Miles has a history of being disingenuous about such things. But, at least there is the OL ... with 3 of the projected starters (RG and both OTs) having 2 starts between the 3 of them.

LSU has talent on the team ... but a key injury or two, such as Beckwith or Fournette, and it could all come apart.

There is nothing wrong with your analysis, generally I agree with some of what you have said. There are questions to be answered.

I give the Wisconsin game as a toss-up for some of the reasons you mentioned i.e. new 3-4 scheme and virtually no LBs with experience other than Beckwith. Not too concerned with the offense though.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with having a well thought out opinion on a team, which yours is.

How has Texas closed a 35 point gap? They lost by that margin to ND last year. That's the only one that puzzles me.

Houston beats OU.
A&M beats UCLA

WISC beats LSU 🙁

Auburn will not beat Clemson. They can't keep pace with Clemson's offense. Ole Miss could pull the upset with FSU's starting QB out. But Ole Miss lost a lot on the defense and I can see FSU pounded the ball down their throat. I think that will be Fisher's gameplan.

For the reasons you mention, LSU only beats Wisconsin by 10. All things being equal.... it would be closer to 20.

UT cut a 24 pt gap to 6 vs OU.... and OU was a playoff team. UT's gap can be explained by talent and experience deficiencies. The gap between ND and Texas can't be.

Texas...ND has seemed a little soft for a while.
I know they got trashed by them before, but you have to think that Charlie Strong will toughen the horns up a little more each year.

1. App State @ #9 UT
-No, I expect App will be tough early but size and talent shows through before the half.

2. Kan State @ #11 Stanford
-I don't know enough about either but Stanford dropped some puzzling games last year

3. #3 Okla. vs #12 Houston
-Tough call, I don't think Houston has the D to win this game, should be close though and I wouldn't necessarily call it an "upset" if Houston did win

4. #6 LSU vs Wisky
-Don't sleep on the Badgers, they are a tough out, that being said, LSU does what they do better than they do it.

5. #24 UCLA @ T A&M
-I know almost nothing about both teams, I'm not sure it would be an upset if TAMU won.

6. #20 UNC vs #22 UGA
-This could be the one, depending on what you classify as an "upset", UNC has quietly put together a good squad that played Clemson very tough last year. I wouldn't be surprised if the heels took this.

7. #2 Bama vs #19 USC w
-Bama is Bama, they won't lose this game

8. #1 Clemson @ Auburn
-Auburn could win this game but it would take a herculean effort to do so and I just don't see it.

9. #9 Notre Dame @ Texas
Texas is a team to watch out for and I'm not convinced Notre Dame is legit. ND probably wins though.

10. #4 Fla State vs #14 Ole Miss
This is tough... Ole Miss can definitely do this, I'm just not convinced they will, they have had issues overcoming LSU and Bama, so I'm not sure they can get over this hump either.

So there you go, I think UNC, Texas and maybe Ole Miss can get the upsets.

You are very gracious. I don't wish ill for LSU, and definitely want them to beat Florida, Bama, Ole Miss ... pretty much everybody.
