Thoughts on which of these guys are in a good situation to contribute? Thoughts on the UDFA's?

Dont'e Thornton Jr. -- Raiders
Dylan Sampson -- Browns

Elijah Simmons -- Cardinals
Omari Thomas -- Saints
Will Brooks -- Chiefs

Pearce is probably in the best situation. Being a 1st rounder helps as the team is heavily invested and usually filling a large positional need He will be able to start right away and be given plenty of opportunity to showcase himself and prove his worth. Of course I am biased, but I think he is going to make a lot of GMs look dumb for letting him drop to the late 1st.

On the other hand, I think Thorton and Sampson are in unfortunate situations. Thorton has Geno Smith as a QB, with over the hill Pete Carroll as HC who prefers running the ball. The Raiders also seem to cycle through coaches and Qbs the last few years and I don't sense any change in stability is coming any time soon with two guys at the end of their careers.

Sampson has to compete with Quishon Judtkins, a higher pick for touches. I do think Sampson is clearly the better RB and will beat him out so maybe its not too bad of a situation. I just think the Browns haven't developed or utilized the skilled position players they drafted/signed in the recent past. They do have a decent offensively minded head coach with an emphasis on the run game. So potentially he is able to

I think you have to consider what franchise they end up with and if that franchise has shown they are serious about actually competing. Based on the franchises listed, Kansas City is the only one I would consider run by pretty competent football people from front office to the coaching staff as well as the players on the team.

In my humble opinion....

Pearce - Interesting situation for him. I think he has a chance to get on the field quickly because the Falcons don't have a pass rush. Being a first rounder he will get plenty of patience because of money and need.

Norman-Lott - I think he is set up with the best situation to succeed. He will be rotational to begin with, so no huge amount of pressure. He was criminally underrated here at UT, so I think in a smaller rotational DT room he will shine. He also has the gift to play next to one of the top 3 DTs in the NFL and learn from him.

Thorton - He has a chance to shine but going to a now very young team trying to rebuild and reboot he is in the most dangerous position to be overlooked or underutilized. He does benefit from having an extremely experienced head coach who has the rep of having an eye for talent that his assistant coaches can work well with. The scheme used by Carroll in the past favors' big receivers like him.

Sampson - His talent will show through, but he is unfortunately on the most dysfunctional team in the NFL. Just look at poor Cedric Tillman for an example. Given focus, he is dependable and performs. For some reason, he would have a great game and then the next game, wouldn't get 10 snaps. Thats not on him, that is on the organization. Sampson is who I will pray for the most.

A weird thing is that 3/4 draftees, all other than Lott, had players drafted in front of them by their team who play the same position. So I’ll say Lott. Also probably the only one that will see the playoffs this year
