..Which makes me have to wonder...

You really are an imbecile. Hemroid had 4 freakin' lottery picks on that squad. Tyler Smith is the only first round possibility on this team right now.

I love how when I say something I find interesting, like this thread, I'm an imbecile, but when I put something bland and generic like my post in the BasketVols 09' thread, nothing is said about it.

I also love how nothing is taken in context. In both threads I've started here, people have taken one statement, like me disproving that you can't win it all in your third year, and ignored the entire rest of the words. I mean, I even said that he had much more talent, but you completely ignored that the point was to say that this team could've gone further than this, with the talent Bruce had gotten so far, like Chism, T. Smith, and Ramar Smith.

I'll just go along and say things that have already been said a million times from now on.

Bruce Pearl is a genius. I can't wait until he gets the right players and his system works to its fullest. Tennessee Basketball will get better next year because it just will.

Edit: It was William's second season, my bad. Heck, even faster.

As long as Bruce is around, 20-win seasons and NCAA berths will be the norm. He'll bring home an NCAA Championship eventually.

Be patient. Tennessee basketball was nowhere before CBP came, the turnaround has somewhat left many fans spoiled and that isn't fair to CBP or the members of his roster. Nothing is done overnight and it is unrealistic to expect him to win a National Championship right away. Look at how long it took Roy Williams and Jim Boeheim to win one, just be realistic. We aren't a top program and CBP is our only possible chance of getting there.

I'm kind of really sad that in a game where both Steven Pearl and Ryan Childress get in that Jordan Howell didn't get one minute. Not the best way to send off a Senior. Who knows, maybe he could've finally been ready to provide a spark...

It's a useful system, but you have to be able to do other things. Have you noticed that when we press against a team with decent guard play, that instead of turning the ball over, they just throw it down the court and get layups? Did you notice that when Louisville pressed us tonight, that we weren't able to do much of that -- in spite of the fact that we're supposed to be a running team?

This season went awry because, for whatever reason, Ramar Smith has regressed. Last season I thought he was a sure-fire NBA player; this year, I don't know what's happened to him. If he'd developed like most of us expected him to, then we'd have been a 1 seed this year and maybe we'd have been playing a 12 seed to get into the Elite Eight. For whatever reason, though, he's taken several steps backwards.

Agreed. Daniel West (incoming recruit) might be our first true point guard prospect since C.J. Watson. J.P. Prince just isn't ever going solve our issues at the point.

If you had told me during the offseason that we'd finish the year with Lofton being stymied and ineffective because we'd have to play a forward at PG, I would have laughed at you.

Do what? CBP is not the only route to the promised land. In fact, if he leaves, we're still OK. He has awakened our fanbase to basketball and we're no longer viewed as just a football school. Our options have definitely broadened.

True but if he leaves and we have a couple of bad years on the floor and don't recruit well....... We could regress very quickly.

I don't think our problem last night was CBP's system as it was so many boneheaded turnovers by the players. That with terrible shooting will cause you to get beat in a lot of ballgames. Earlier this year we took great care of the basketball but lately our turnovers have been really high.

Is Bruce Pearl the coach that is going to win us a national title?

Titles, National or otherwise, aren't won or lost for US. They are won or lost by and for the players. We've just been invited to watch. You aren't entitled to anything, championships or 0-fers.

I think CP was trying to protect Jodan's voice.

A little bit emotional after last nights game huh? Yes the loss was disappointing, but it's not the end. We will be a better all around team next year, if Tyler stays that is. If Tyler goes we will still be a tournament team. :eek:k:

You can't start questioning CBP yet!

I love Bruce Pearl. And you all know the reasons why. He's created this program from nothing. He deserves mega props for everything that he's done for us, the fans.

Jujuan, Lofton, Bradshaw, and Howell all deserve praise for helping to make this program anything. They have given people a reason to watch Tennessee basketball, and have made the past three seasons big successes.

But...

Is Bruce Pearl the coach that is going to win us a national title?

The part of me that says yes blames this all on the fact that he's had to develop some players that, though hardworking, really have low talent and just can't physically do certain things. In developing these players (the seniors) and winning right away he's had to give less time to the development of the talent he has brought in, and we will see dramatic rise in consistency of Ramar, Prince, and Chism next year, and we'll see much much less boneheadedness and much more emphasis on solid halfcourt offense and defense. We'll play more "legit" defense (still plenty of steals, but maybe some blocks and low shooting percentage as well), and we'll get that elite eight or Final Four next year or 2010. Bruce will bring in a top five recruit or two soon, and will continue his pattern of 24 wins every single year, with one of them having the talent and the means to get that title. Bruce leaves after 10 more years, with 4 SEC titles and 1 or 2 national.

The part of me that says no is that no one ever ever wins in the postseason with the Bruce Pearl style of play, Jurick isn't a scoring big man, and we'll always have shaky inconsistent players who don't know how to shoot outside of five feet. Chism and T. Smith will be good, but won't have the backcourt or perimeter shooting behind them in order to win now, and they'll be gone soon enough. Bruce won't have the type of season or prestige that helps recruit the Derrick Rose type of player, and it will cost us. We'll have the talent to get 30 wins, with 4 stars across the board, but 5 Stars will be convinced they can't get a title here. Scotty Hopson will pick Mississippi State. Kentucky and Florida combined will give us 3 losses a year, and we'll be frustrated as Bruce Pearl turns into Fulmer.
................................................................

A little dramatic and short sided on both sides, but tell me. Do you guys believe that Bruce Pearl is a National Title coach, just an SEC Championship coach, or something else, and why?
No...Now lets all join hands and jump off Gay Street Bridge.:cray:

It must be hard to breathe with your head that far up Pearl's rectum.

I'm not disagreeing that Richardson's a good coach. But for you to make assertions like that makes absolutely 0 sense.

He did have much more talent than Pearl when he won the National Championship, and went to the championship game in 95.

Richardson won a national title at the JUCO level, built the Tulsa program, took Arkansas to three Final Fours, and won it all once. When Bruce Pearl has a resume that is remotely worthy of being mentioned in the same breath, let me know.

How about this; In his first three years at Arkansas:

12-19
19-14
21-9

Pearl:

22-8
24-11
31-5

Pearl in his first three years has 50% of the SEC championships Richardson earned in his entire tenure as an SEC Head Coach. I'm not saying Bruce is a better coach, but Richardson might be marginally better. Nothing more.

We got a good look last night at what happens when Pearl faces one of the giants in his profession on equal footing.
