Some posters are deflecting blame from Butch by saying its the players' fault - the interceptions, dropped passes, missed blocks, etc. In other words, hold the players publicly accountable for their play, more than the coaches for their planning and decisions.

Yet the very same posters clutch their pearls and decry the painting of the rock because a few spraypainted words will "send the wrong message," "hurt the team," "demoralize the players," "hurt recruiting," etc.

So which is it? Is it a mentally tough team that can take criticism of their play, or a bunch of mentally fragile players who can't even handle reading four words (briefly) painted on a rock?

Judging by the mass amount of injuries we sustain every year, I'm leaning towards physically fragile, the mental toughness is there

Why don’t you ask those who said players were MORE accountable?

The players missed a lot of plays in that game. If we make one or two of those, we probably win. So some of that loss is definitely on execution. No denying it.

That said, we’re in year five. If our guys are making multitudes of in-game mistakes, were either recruiting the wrong players or they aren’t well coached.

Butch isn’t getting fired this week, so does painting ‘Fire Butch!’ on the rock help the program in any way? It does not, IMO.

Does staying home Saturday show support for the players? It does not.

This team plays 60 minutes and never gives up - you can't say enough about the heart displayed in Martin running down and knocking the ball out. That said they make a lot of bone head mistakes...I'm not talking about dropped passes (they happen) and missed kicks (none of those FG tries was exactly a chip shot) I'm talking about 3 IP penalties at the goal line, letting the receiver behind you with 9 seconds left in the game, checking out of a running play at the goal line, not getting inside position on a slant route at the goal line, getting a 15 yard penalty for taunting when you just got back in the game. It looks like the only way this team quits shooting themselves in the foot is if they run out of bullets :)

I think they all feel responsible for not doing more or better. So when one individual is called out above all others it's an insult to the contribution they have made to the team. Win or lose.

Stop insulting them by withholding blame or credit.

Neither. Our team has been plagued with injuries not because they aren't tough, but because they are unlucky. I also think they have the resilience to stomach the rock message. I think it's poor form to use the rock as your billboard, but hey, these are college kids.

Our players have the talent, strength, and toughness to compete but are stymied by our play calling and clock management. That, I think, is tragic.

I would say combo of both. Byrd should be a DB and the O should switch to pro style, if QD is remaining a starter

It's a bunch of butt hurt cry baby fans acting like fools.... tweeting players.... painting the rock.... complaining about players going out Saturday night after the game... and other various BS.

Get back to us when you invest more than 8-12 beers and four hours in front of the tv on Saturday.

Good points. As upset as I may be at times, I'll never stop supporting the team.

I agree. Our kids work hard all year to prepare. As much as last week sucked, the season isn’t over after one loss. Even though it does feel like it when we lose to Florida every year. Lol.

I never stop supporting UT, but when you lose to UF you are basically 3 games behind. the one loss to UF we will lose to bama for the foreseeable future, so that means you have to have UF drop 3 in SEC play just to get in front on them. It sucks, but it is the way it is. When you lose to UF you are in trouble for east crown. Hell he found a way to lose the east even while beating UGA and UF.

I'm tired of our players making enormous efforts and all we remember is the loss. It's not Tennessee football. It's not what championship teams are like. This is pathetic to keep defending a millionaire who phones it in while we have kids that sacrifice their body to win games only to be pissed on by a coach who is clueless. Open your eyes.

John Kelly should have been all over every sports station after Saturday. But all we heard was Butch this, Butch that. Or the huge play by Justin Martin to get that ball back. No one remembers John Kelly but us. The media and pundits remember Philippe Franks.

In 2016, we should have won the east and saw Dobbs crazy runs, JJ's insane plays he made all year, John Kelly emerging as a leader of this team....but all we heard about is South Carolina, Vanderbilt....Jalen Hurd being an idiot...

In 2016 at A&M, no one remembers Alvin Kamara's 288 total yards from scrimmage and 3 TDs in that game. Which should have been replayed on every station on repeat all night long....they remember pissing a game away on stupid decisions by our coach.

In 2015, the Florida game, Josh Dobbs led the team in passing, rushing and receiving yards!!! But NO ONE remembers that because the game was a botched loss.

In 2015, Oklahoma, we should have been celebrating Todd Kelly's two HUGE interceptions of Baker Mayfield to help us win the game and go up 14 points. But all anyone remembers is a blown lead in the 4th qtr.

I do not care about recruiting classes falling apart at this point. Butch does nothing with the elite talents he has now. Tyler Byrd has barely seen a snap. Shaq Wiggins has played well everywhere he's been, SEC freshman awards, all-ACC CB who almost won the Clemson game for Louisville last year on a huge interception, suddenly can't make a start even against Indiana state....but our secondary just lost us a game???????? WHAT PLANET ARE YOU PEOPLE LIVING ON????
That sums up my feelings about Butch and our team at this point.

I've been Pro-Butch this whole time....prayed the new hires would take us to another level....but why should Florida fans get to cry because they are winning the East Division but just not with style points on the board....while we just want to hope to not get humiliated by South Carolina and Vandy? With our talent that shouldn't even be a thought in a fan's head let alone one of our players. James Franklin did more with Shoop and Vandy with pretty much mediocre level athletes than Butch does with top 10 classes....and for what he makes it is inexcusable for our program and these men that take the field.

Does it really matter? Jones owns it. He recruited and developed this team over 5 years. Whatever the nature of this roster is... it reflects his ability to recruit and retain the right guys.

Any "blame" of the players at this point... goes DIRECTLY to Jones' ability as a coach.

I don't think we have fragile players. You see how they always battle in the 4th quarter of games. Fragile players were in 2015 when we were giving up all those leads. The last 2 years our guys have left everything on the field. I couldn't be more proud of the players and their effort the last 2 seasons.

I agree with all of the above, especially year five.

Do you rember when Peyton threw the int against BAMA? Cut came out and defended him and stated he was taight to throw wher the blitz was coming from.

That's kinda the same for the int at the one. QB was taught to time it and throw at X spot and the reciever would be there. The reciever was taught to be at spot X but if defender was (blocking the spot) in front to break route and QB would lay it up over the top.

In all, that was a freak play but had it been successful, no one would be talking about it now.
