Which 4 players will be starting in the secondary vs. Cal?

gaines/fellows - both are sr's i think
johnson - he will lock down a spot by fall
hefney
mckenzie - hope he learns quickly..if not look for wardlaw

berry and willingham will both both play


i also look for our dl to put pressure on Cal's QB again..their OL lost 7 of their 10 on the 2 deep

we have 3 sr's on the dl and demonte bolden is a jr

Berry has been nothing but great in the preseason workouts, if he can learn the defense fast enough he may start from day one. Hefney is the only locked starter out of the group. Fellows is off the team, and with them being stricter on this stuff I doubt he'll be reinstated anytime soon. Marsalous Johnson will likely be one of the starting corners. While he hasnt played a whole lot he in a starting role would be a pretty decent CB. McKenzie will likely start from Week 1, unless he has serious problems learning the defense, due to necessity.

Berry and Willingham at corner, Hefney and McKenzie at Safeties.... as to who covers Jackson, probably Berry and Hefney will double him

How are we supposed to take your advice to "look for" certain players when you don't know that Roshaun Fellows was kicked off the team. Or Antonio WARDLOW is a safety, not Wardlaw.

CB-Willingham/Johnson

I think Berry will have one CB spot locked up by the Cal game. Parrish may start because I don't think McKenzie has arrived on campus yet, I may be wrong about that. Willingham and Johson will duke it out for the other CB spot. And my guess as to who covers Jackson will probably be one of our CB's.LOL

Cal will have to prove they can run the ball. It doesnt matter who covers Jackson. If they are one dimensional Cal will get beat.

I think Johnson will get burned by Jackson and give up a couple of plays and Willingham will come in the 2nd or 3rd qt.

Personally what I think we should do is have Hefney stay on Jackson the whole game, just because our DB's are unproven. Make the other WR's beat us and not just Jackson. Just my thoughts though:thumbsup:

I wouldn't be surpised to see Berry starting before the season's over, but not against Cal.

i agree.. if we can get pressure in the backfield like last year there wont be enough time to throw the ball downfield. Front Four needs to step up

If our DL and LB corps would still beat the shxx out of their OL, I don't care how many Jackson they have and who will start on our secondary. But I seriously doubt it. I would say:
CB: Willingham
CB: Johnson
FS: Hefney
SS: Mckenzie

Berry will start as will at least one of the JUCOs. The coaches, specifically Chavis, have said many times that Berry will start against Cal. I'd say McKenzie will start as well. The other CB spot will be between Johnson, Gaines, and Willingham.
