Were you here a few years back when we said the same thing when signing Shy, Mackenzie, et al? The greatest DL in UT history (supposedly)?

You weren't replying to me but I also remember and was wowed by Shy , McK & Barnett. Only Barnett really came through & exceeded expectations. He was probably rated #3 on that list during recruiting.

Right about Barnett. McK was a disappointment. I cut Shy some slack. That Ga guy that cheap shotted him and broke his leg really set him back.

Well I'm sure that batch of DL would have been a ton better with a legit S&C program.

Nice to have a HC that understands what it takes to compete and win in the SEC and the other important thing he is not afraid to hire the best assistants he can get and let them do their jobs. Unlike BJ who was a micromanager and afraid to hire someone too good because of his insecurities they may take his job.

How would you describe Derrick Barnett, Shy Tuttle, and Khalil McKenzie? Those were some big boys and 2 of them played with the same mean streak that has them excelling at the next level.

I was thinking Peterson would have been a good choice as well. Boy was I wrong. Would have been ain the middle of another coaching search about now. Points out how risky any hire can be. Go get a proven winner and he can still retire on you in two years.

You can certainly tell the guy is a defensive coach. But he’s recruiting really well on the other side too.
Looks like he’s trying to build a Bama clone. Which is a good thing.
