By modern day....anything after 1970.

For me:
1. National title game over FSU
2. 1998 Clint Stoerner fumble game
3. 1985 Sugar Vols win over Miami

Your thoughts?

It would be a bigger deal than beating FL earlier in the season. Just think, we come into Neyland after a hard-fought loss on the road and we proceed to have our way with the #1 team in the country. #wgwtfa

In the big picture, you do realize how important that win was, right?

Forget about being 0-12.
With a loss, we would have 2 loses in the SEC and the LSU debacle is still unsettled.

That game had to be won. period.

Yes at the time, beating FL was a huge turning point in our season.

But now the challenge at hand is AL, and they are a much bigger deal historically and nationally than FL is

I'm going to go with #2 behind the national championship game.

Alabama is the closest thing to a dynasty we've seen in an era that is really hard to maintain a dynasty. It would put us in fine position to be in a play-in game for the playoffs, solidify our program's standing on the current national stage, and potentially give recruiting a huge boost.

Here would be my top 10 regular season games after 1985 (sorry, I don't go further back than that...)

1. 2016 Alabama*
2. 1998 Florida
3. 1991 Notre Dame (miracle comeback)
4. 1995 Alabama (broke long losing streak)
5. 2016 Florida (broke long losing streak)
6. 1982 Alabama (broke long losing streak)
7. 2001 Florida (1st win at the Swamp since the 18th century - or it felt like that anyway)
8. 1998 Arkansas
9. 1989 Auburn
10. 2003 Miami (broke their big home winning streak)

Miracle in South Bend has to be there somewhere. However, get this one Saturday, it'll be the biggest in a long time.

Edit: I was typing as WTM posted.

IMHO, we had to beat Florida while they are in a down period. It would be nice to beat Bama, but this isn't a 'must win' type situation.

Saturday's victory will pale in comparison to beating UA in the SECCG this year.

Yes I would say right after the 98 Natty, this win would throw us into massive recruiting cycle where we could honestly show recruits come to Tennessee if you want to win.

Thought? When is the last time a team from the East beat Alabama? I haven't googled it yet just wondering what team you think last did it? My guess would be a Urban Meyer UF team???

That's a great trivia question. I had to look it up. I won't reveal the answer in case anyone wants to take a stab at it.

If you eliminate post season games (SEC Title games and National Title games) then I would think it would have a shot to be #1.

The only games that could contend in terms of magnitude of the win would be 98 UF and Ark and 01 UF.

Given how absolutely dominate Bama has been, how long we have been down and how this basically would guarantee we will be in ATL with a shot at the playoff and SEC title, I think would have to rank #1 in those regular season games.

Hard to compare it with actual title games.

Beating Gators and Bama in the same season after a long long drought would be the biggest win/s for me in since the 98 season. Not sure if we've beat both in the same season since then.

In 1982, in Majors sixth season, Tennessee upset #2 Alabama to break an 11 game losing streak...

I would rank an upset of #1 Alabama in Butch's fourth season to be about the same...
