Where there's smoke there's fire?

Butch is doing more than enough to dig his own grave without people making up crap rumors. This is just like the bs a couple years ago when they made up the bs about him hitting a player.

There is smoke...in the form of a dumpster fire...but the post mentioned in the OP is not the "JAV"

And knowing guys on the team comes with a lot of ups and downs in emotion because I hear the good the bad and the ugly about practices, the weight room, and relationships with coaches. Should be star players on the team smoke and drink 3-4 nights a week, the abuse xanax, they willingly skip workouts, and worst of all some are totally apathetic even as senior because Butch is a moron!

They know it l know it and everyone knows it. He needs to go before he creates an irreversible culture problem which was part of Dooley's damage too.

I believe a lot of this, because it just makes too much sense. If a player willingly skips a workout, the bench should be a certainty. Saban sure as he!! wouldn't put up with that nonsense.

I believe this is why we see so much constant discontent in this program.

Umass game will not move the needle. Maybe the UGA game can do that but I don't see how we win that one based on how both teams are playing. Butch is a proven hothead and I don't see him taking this well. I would not want to be under his authority as a staff member or as a player right now.

Agree that it doesn't move the needle but does move the mood swings.

Btw, no way Butch gets fired. I can't believe the reserve was only 6.9 mil last year and only 18 this year. Still last in the SEC. Unless deep pockets pony up (they haven't in the past, just paid Fulmef off a few years ago), best case is Butch leaves on his own.

A move can be made and should be made. I can't remember when the last time the coaching market has been this deep. Stoops, Miles, Venables, Kelly... any of those would be a huge improvement over Jones. We have a talented core and in state talent is at an all time high. It needs to get done this year. The timing is the only thing that matters at this point.

I started with Mullen as my top pick, but others on here are moving me toward Venables. I wouldn't mind having a young, hungry coach in there.

Butch let's certain players get away with things that's what it sounds like, the Jalen Hurd mess.. example

I think the UGa game will be the litmus test:

1. It is at home.
2. A loss puts us at 0-2 in the conference.
3. We have a bye the next week.

I'd take Brent Venables as HC right now and wouldn't look back. If someone else gets him we will be kicking ourselves in a couple years. Dude can coach

No. Your duration with us should make you think twice about inviting a valued, long term poster to leave the board. Get over yourself and learn to live with disagreement.

I honestly could care less about how long any of you have been here. Or how many posts anyone has. You can judge my opinions by their quality and if you don't care to hear them them GTFO of a Vols message board.

The greatest example by far. You lose all respect in the locker room--from players and coaches--when you let any player walk all over you.

You have no authority after that. And you will never get it back.

I never judged your opinions, genius.

I told you your actions were a bad look. They're still a bad look. But carry on.

We do need to fire Butch right away honestly. Promote Gillespie to interim HC since he's the only coach worth a damn and hopefully we can keep him on staff under the next coach.

I am seriously thinking about this. We want to keep Gillespie, and I'd be open to letting him ride the rest of the season. Won't end any worse than how it will now.

Have a good shot, here's why.

MSU looks to be a lot tougher than originally thought. That game will be physical, Fitzgerald is a load at 250 lbs running the ball. UGA will be banged up, TN takes it easy Saturday and can rest guys with ailments, basically an off week.

UGA has done horrible when they face a coach on the hot seat, twice with Fulmef alone. Tn will come out with their hair on fire and with great purpose. This team doesn't quit and will play their best game against UGA, book it.

And the only good thing that came of that was that we kept them from the SECCG. My point was that its been 5 years and we haven't won a single game worth a damn.

That's a matter of perspective. I'd say breaking an 11 game losing streak to our most hated rival is worth a damn. I would also call a 2 game winning streak against UGA worth a damn.

The biggest indictment of Jones isn't that he can't win a big game, but that he can't capitalize on the opportunity when he does. We beat the two teams we had to beat last year to win the East, then turned around and wet the bed against a couple of bottom feeders.

I haven't even thought about him. Worth a look for sure. I would like to see us make a $5M to $7M run at Stoop or Petrino. And even though he'll probably never come out of the NFL, JIM BOB COOTER!

No, Florida was the litmus test. No way a soundly coached football team loses this past Saturday to that sad looking bunch of Gators. I'm not even talking about Nick Saban, Urban Meyer type coaches to lead this team. I believe Derik Mason would have led the Vols to a win Saturday. Too many losses in close games already for this head coach. Too many upset losses to teams UT has no business losing to in the past year. It's over in my book!

Yeah, by I get paid for my posts, so they're more valuable 😜

Pulls some lucky horseshoes outta his arse..

I would not be surprised by a Vol victory at all.

But, all it does is appease the administration enough to ensure that Butch finishes the season (or at least most of it).

His long term future will be decided after the bye--if he beats Georgia and makes it that far. The only thing that could make the fan base even lukewarm toward him is a 9-3 finish, and he needs 10-2 to really make people believe. I do not think he is anywhere near capable of pulling that off.

It would take some kinda cult like voodoo where he has dolls of every coach Tennessee faces this year to some how forget to coach against Tennessee I don't see it either..

Totally agree. Especially watching Vandy beat K State Saturday night. Vandy is tough and disciplined...and a bunch of 2* and 3* all over the place. Maybe Vandy's powers that be can pick our next coach for us since the UTBOT sucks so bad at it.

Maybe with the fan base, but not the administration. Why? Because, the fact that Butch is still employed today means that Florida was not the litmus test.

My point is that the earliest you would see a change, if at all, would be during the bye week after the Georgia game.
