We are def. the second best overall. However, the margin was MUCH more comfortable over UGA and LSU a decade ago.

It's great to be a TN Vol.
2nd behind the Tide is not a bad place to be.

We've been up. We've been down.
Clearly we've been up more than down.
Here's to the next big up swing!

I did notice that thanks to Mark Ingram (& Charles "I stole mine" Woodson) we are now the school with the most all time wins without a Heisman

Yeah...I don't like admitting it, but Bama's history is pretty impressive. Tennessee isn't too shabby though. I believe that one of Neyland's years, Tennessee did not give up a touchdown the entire year. That should get its own category.

Man, that tastes like vomit in my mouth.

Second to Bama in just about everything. Irritating, to be sure but impressive nonetheless.

I have no problem saying we are the 2nd best program in SEC history and top 10 overall.

These averages enforce the fact we are have been below average for some years now. Time to pick it back up now.

Why does the UT fanbase only claim 4 Titles but give Bama their 13? Makes no sense to me.

I think Bama has 8 legitimate titles. If we are going with Bama's 13 titles, we got 6.

Can't complain about that.....we need to start winning more again to be where we belong.......

in the stadium they have us winning 6 natl. champ., wiki has us winning that many. there were more than one champion way back when.

also, they gave norte dame one with two losses, when we had 0 losses. this was during the era of the four horsemen, more of a popularity contest back then. the titles were handed out prior to the bowl game, norte dame won one then lost in a bowl game to usc.

Just curious, the '39 team went unscored upon and they were the last to do so. Now, these were the days when maybe, on a good day, 5 passes would have been attempted. So a stellar run D is critical. If air attacks hadn't become popular(game changing), would there be more unscored upon teams these days? Just a thought, not trying to water down the General's achievements in the slightest as I don't see this ever being achieved again

V,B!

Btw, what was the winning streak leading up to the 39 season or after? I came across the stat a few months ago in the bowl guide IRIC.

I think Bama has 8 legitimate titles. If we are going with Bama's 13 titles, we got 6.
If we're just going by AP/Coaches titles, we have 2.

I think LSU only has 3, by the way. At least they just claim 3.

I'm not really sure how to count UT's titles. I can't imagine many people remember if we were considered champions in 38, 40, or 50. Anyone who remembers 67 want to comment on that? I can't imagine many considered UT national champs after a 9-2 season where we were only ranked number 1 by Litkenhous.

I saw the title of this thread and my answer was "2nd place in pretty much everything behind Alabama"

UTwent untied, undefeated,& unscored upon for 17 consecutive games in '38,'39,'40.

The most unbreakable record in college football I can think of....

& check the stats of where UT ranks since the formation of the
SEC....I think you'll find we follow no one
