Where the down fall began and why fans are never happy

Answer is D: None of the Above.

Maybe, but all do bring something to the table. I was asked to give names UT would actually have a shot at. DJ Durkin is a name that really interest me, he was a great DC in this league and what he's done at Maryland this year with no talent shouldn't go unnoticed. He's also a pretty good recruiter, his class is currently ranked 12th with Josh Kaindoh being his prize recruit this year.

Born of a UT fan, I can only remember as far back as 03.

So in 13 years I have suffered 2 horrible rivalry streak massacres while only reaching Atlanta TWICE and losing them both.

I'm getting tried of waiting to find out what it'slike to be a fan of a winning school... who hasnt won anything since 98. Im tired of being patient and being promised, only to be laughed at every year. I'm not done, I'm just tired.

So no, I will never be happy as long as I continue to see mediocrity from a top historic program.

Part of being a Tennessee fan. Luckily Bear Bryant and Nick Saban eventually get replaced.

Who would you suggest we hire that will do better than Butch? And be realistic, no Saban, Meyer, Tom Herman, Jimbo or Gruden. None of those are ever going to happen.
And I am being serious, who out there would be a home run hire?

I would give Fuente $5m/year. Not sure he would leave after only one season at Va Tech, though.

I said succeeded at the biggest stage for the old guys. Only Miles qualifies for that.

On the young guys, how long do you give them? What if we hired , Fleck say. He comes here with a good roster and fails miserably his first 2 years, do you fire him and start all over again?

If they don't have success in their first two years , then fahr them!!!

Unhappy people can never be made to feel happy.

Happiness is an internal mechanism that looks for the good.

Conversely, the miserable will continue to be miserable in their life as they need very little stimulus to look at the negative.

I'll choose to be positive about this staff and team and support them and their run to greatness in the future.

Go Vols, NegaVols be damned!!

YES!!!!...let's hire the guy who lost to Syracuse and GT...and struggled with powerhouse Duke.

I'd love to read his wirebrushing when same happens at UT.

Loss of talented players, recruiting not what it once was, same stubborn coach who hires his cronies and refuses to make adjustments, Florida, USC, heck even Vandy improving in the east. It's sad that you'll watch the's big time upsets in college football and you just know d*mn well if UT switched places with these underdogs they'd surely lose. It's like a curse. 4 years in and CBJ is not winning the games he's not supposed to win. Championship coaches win games they shouldn't.

He has won games he shouldn't have. South Carolina x 2 and UGA last year. Unfortunately, we shouldn't have lost to South Carolina this year. The real problem is that his recruiting is dropping off and we're losing players mid-season. He rebuilt our roster, but if he can't sustain recruiting success OR show improvement on the field, we need to recognize that early and not wait for him to put us into a situation where we can't land a top tier coach. Given the number of big time jobs that will be open this year, I'm for giving Butch another year as long as he's willing to make some coaching changes.

Anyone who thinks we should have won the SEC last year is delusional. I expected us to compete for the SEC East, and we did.

Anyone who thought we would win the SEC this year is still delusional, though less so. I expected us to be the favorites to win the East, and we were.

This season is disappointing, but we were not going to "win a championship" this year without a lot of luck.

We were favorites to win the east but were delusional to expect to win it? Who's the delusional one here...

I *would* be very happy fielding a team of motivated (every play!) VOLS that show up and play with heart and intensity for 4 quarters every game. Put that on the field and let the losses fall where they may and I will be satisfied. I can handle losses to an obviously superior talent (see bama) but I cannot stand the low effort performances that see us getting thrashed by garbage programs like USCe.

Not at all. I just want the names and logic behind those names. Thats all. You have stated your opinions. So what say you?

What are the realistic names, you know the guys that can actually be hired, to replace Butch and without any proof, would unequivocally win championships at Tennessee?

A young coach who would use Tennessee as a stepping stome and who is unproven at the big stage? Ok then, who? And how long should his contract be for?

Or a big time coach who is a proven winner on the biggest stage? If so, who? How long should his contract be?

Also, what if either coach fails to bring the changes needed to Tennessee as fast as some fans want? Then what? Continue to fire and hire until something sticks?
It's a long shot and probaly will never happen but a young, newly named, up and coming OC of the Buffalo Bills, Anthony Lynn is a name many people are gonna hear about. A great offensive mind-set currently working with Tyrod Taylor, (Va. Tech) QB. He may not have any interest in college level but is definitely a players coach and would likely work with the AD as far as salary goes. Downside is the experience factor on the college level but i think he could develop an explosive type of offense that would rate higher than LAME.
