My wife and I are about to close on a house and we got a great deal, but about 1,000 sq feet of it needs new carpet. Does anyone have any suggestions of a good place to get it? And what should I expect to pay for labor?

Home Depot, lowes. Local carpet place. I'd look everywhere. If doing carpet. Then id pay the price. But regarding installation. When places quote you a price for installation. That is carpet already pulled out and tack strips down. If they have to pull carpet out or put down strips. Then expect price to go up.

Are you in Chattanooga? Or just from there?

In Knox. But I can get carpet from either since my whole family is in Chatt.

Dalton Ga is the carpet Capitol of the world. 30 min from Chatt. Most likely to far from Knoxville.

Yeah and that's most likely where I'll end up. Maybe just buy some sheets of carpet and haul them and have an independent installer come put it in. But I know there are a few places like Knox Salvage in the area that may have some decent deals too. Wanting to know of any others.

Anyone know what I should expect for installation prices? I can't seem to get a rough estimate at all. Yes they would need to pull up carpet.

I just used Joshua Pettis at Fraziers on Western Ave. I highly recommend.

Shave the bad spots and they'll grow back in a few weeks. No need to buy new.

I would say the installation cost will be about $3.50 per yard. Carpet/padding and installation are all done by the yard. So with pricing it all. I would say $12.50-$25per yard for everything or so depending on style of carpet.

Broadway Carpet in Knoxville does a great job.

Go there see what you like, they will give you samples to take home.

Then follow Slice's advice and go down to Dalton and compare prices.

Are they fairly cheap? Like compared to Lowe's or Home Depot?

Carpet price wise, small difference. Installation is the big difference. Broadway Carpets has their own installation crews. They basically have their own school for carpet and flooring installation. So you are going to get consistency.

Home Depot and Lowe's contract this work out. We got new flooring in our kitchen last summer from Broadway. They were out in 5 days. Lowe's and Home Depot both told us it would be anywhere from 3 - 5 weeks before they would be there.

If you can locate someone good to install, you can save a few hundred dollars by buying your carpet from Dalton.

We usually drive down and start stopping at the outlets til we find something we like at a good price.

We have had good luck buying carpet and padding from Beckler's.

If GA sale tax laws have not changed if you have the carpet shipped to TN there is no sales tax, if you pickup yourself there is sales tax. The last we bought they shipped by Averitt Express. It cost basically the same as paying the tax and hauling ourselves.

Maybe someone on here can give you the name of a good installer in Knoxville.

That sounds like the ideal situation. I just want to find a cheap installer like you said.

All laminate floor would be a cheaper solution. Plus you can get the kind that looks like real tile. Really class the place up.

That's actually not a terrible idea. How much cheaper do you think I'm looking at? Like percentage wise?

I would think considerably. You can actually get snap together wood that looks awesome that you could do yourself if you had a little time. Search laminate flooring. Carpet to me is a waste of money and effort to keep looking nice.

I don't know if their carpet is any good, but anytime I need a phone number for something useless, I use theirs... 588-2300 :)

Empire Today - Empire Carpet, Hardwood, Laminate & Ceramic Flooring

When Cable first came out and you had WGN as a station, I heard that jingle everday...Fast Forward 30 years and I move to Chicago, and need new carpet for one room of the house, so I say I'm calling Empire...

They come out, and their twice as expensive as HD, or Lowes...cable adverstising must be expensive

We ended up going with HD...
