You make a lot of good points. If the D was any better, we probably beat MSU and UGa and everyone is happy, or at least, happier.

Of course, it was Dooley that ran off or failed to retain last year's D staff forcing the total reset. You have to factor that in.

My take is, I don't mind him having the rest of the season. It's possible that if the team doesn't quit, we finish 8-5 or even 9-4 with a bowl win and build momentum for next season.

D has totally stunk it up, but has actually improved slightly from the UF and uga games. We have stopped the bleeding in the run D but the pass D has continued to be awful.

No one is trying to condemn him as a person, instead as a competent HC, that's capable of winning championships. Looking at next year's schedule, it's going to be around 7 wins possible next year as well, and may be not even that. We can't have a coach that's going to have no more than a possible 7 wins this year, with the talent we have on offense, going into next year with that same amount possible.

On the other hand, if we manage 8 wins, next year might be a better time to make a change for several reasons. 8 wins is still the best season since 2007, even if it's a slow progression.

Considering the possible mass exit of players to the NFL, even without a favorable draft grade, probably not. Some of these kids may be tired of being students, and want to seek out the money.

Whichever guy has been recruiting him the longest.

There are lots of factors that influence these kids' decisions about where to play; but virtually every single one says at some point that the relationships he's developed with the coaching staffs most effected his decision.

So, all other things being equal, if Saban, Spurrier, Miles, and Dooley/Gruden all stop in on the 5* prospect, the guy who's been recruiting him since he was a freshman in HS stands the best chance of landing him.
