Orlando Sentinel - From one to 24: Florida Gators database on legal troubles by
The FSU and the Orlando articles each contains details that the other does not, so put them together. Even then, there is more vital info left out. For example, when starting safety Tony Joiner broke into the impound lot to take out his girlfriend's car, there is no mention that the lot owner is quoted as saying he received multiple death threats, and thus declined to press charges. Bad enough that Crompton is said to have received death threats, but much worse when death threats are allowed to derail criminal justice proceedings. As the article mentions, the felony theft charges were dropped, and Joiner never missed one single game, unlike Janzen Jackson.
Joiner had actually talked to the dispatcher who was working early Tuesday morning and had made arrangements to pick up the car. The employee left to get some food and the gate to the company was left open. Joiner showed up to pay the $76 towing bill, waited for some time and got impatient and decided to go ahead and take the car and worry about the bill later.
But another employee noticed the car being removed and called the police. A worker at Watson's Towing told the Gainesville Police not to charge Joiner.
