Do we have one? Where is Currie? This is the biggest 24 hr meltdown since Kiffin quit. Some statement should have been made by now.

The story was clearly correct or a denial would have been made around lunch to squash it.

What a horrible day for UT athletics, Jon Currie, and Greg Schiano. Each were on an upswing yesterday. All now spiraling down out of control. Ugh. Shakespeare has come to roost.

Most of the major players in this would do today over again if they could. Obviously, the UTAD is not currently equipped to handle PR. If they had any PR sense, today would not have happened.

The best thing they can do right now is say absolutely nothing. There is no benefit to speaking publicly about the backlash - if the AD made even the slightest mistake when addressing the media, the people protesting would only get that much louder. And even if they said everything "right," which is in and of itself subjective, they'd still only be further lambasted. No benefit to speaking.

Best thing UT can do is hunker down and let this subside, and try to salvage something from their second hiring attempt. There is no other sensible course of action.

I get it. They’re not talking because the lawyers have told them not to talk. But a prepared statement has to be made. There’s such thing as getting ahead of the story. We’ve proven we’re not good at that

I think Currie just isn't smart enough to know what to do. Or, he's too scared. A real man of integrity would step up and take this head on.

But my point is, there's no statement on Earth that will satisfy the people who are angry. In light of that, why make a statement? I'm sure the lawyers have them on lockdown as well, especially if there was a signed memorandum or such, but even beyond that, there's nothing to gain by speaking.

Currie should make a statement and misdirect:

"I think it's shameful, shameful ... that the Good Humor Man is no longer allowed to sell ice cream at NFL games. At UT, we are delighted to support the sale of ice cream."

He sure as hell can't talk about the fiasco of hiring a head coach.

There’s nothing he can say now. But when this broke and shortly after the implosion- you release a statement along the lines of- ‘there was a report earlier today that we’ve hired shiano. This report is not true.’ Keep it ‘technically’ true and say little. That would have deflected it and not given it a life of its own

Agree - though if there was a signed MOU as some have stated, it would not be that simple.

How about just be honest?

Probably true. But a 2-3 sentence statement proof read by a lawyer should have been doable.

Regardless- Currie has screwed up royally on all fronts and I’d be shocked if he can survive

I'm truly amazed at the lack of communication from UT at this point. They must be knee deep in it.

What would constitute honesty for you? What would you want him to say, to meet the measurement of honesty? I promise you what you would find honest, the next person could easily find disingenuous. What you might find sufficient, the next person would decry as insufficient. In short - there is nothing he can say that will make people happy.

In a job position predicated on power, influence, and authority, he is far better off letting things cool off than he is inciting further uproar.

But the AD has a great studio for Ministry of Propaganda; good thing they decided to pass on it today because there's no coming back from this one.

If the AD had gotten ahead of the hiring decision, there wouldn't be a need to get ahead of the story. Any selection would have left some unhappy fans; this was the one that satisfied virtually no one - that's hard to do.
