Where is Kevin Sumlin?

he ran off several talented QBs.

at this point I'll take him but some crazy shiz went down at TAMU under him.

Yes he did and I don't know the particulars but he had several good ones on roster so it happens. We've lost a few good ones at Tennessee.

Manziel was a college generational player. He brought 100's of millions of dollars to the Aggie program in increased donations. It allowed Sumlin to quickly become the 5 million dollar coach, which also created the 5 million dollar expectation.

In short, Sumlin hit the lotto and unless one of those Johnny football dudes is hanging around someplace like Milan don't expect similar results.
Manziel and A&M's entry to the SEC coincided. The success of Manziel helped, but I think they drummed up a lot of those donations from people who were ready to pony up once they knew the divorce from B12/Texas was finalized.

What are your major grievances with uptempo, spread, no-huddle football, besides it not being "real football" I.E., "I-Formation, three yards and a cloud of dust" football?

You seem to have a real vendetta against no huddle offense, man. :eek:lol:

I have no problem with some of those concepts, but at the end of the day you have to be able to attempt to run power at times, and you have to be able to stop a power running team. Spread is okay, that is what Mississippi State runs, its what Ohio State runs and even Alabama has gone to more spread option type formations. But its all about power... and the ability to stop power running - first.

What Oregon, Texas Tech, Ok. State, West Virginia, Texas A&M, etc. is generally not going to work at the higher levels.

Chavis has close to zero percent chance of producing even a good (let alone great) defense at TAM because all they have to practice against is that crappy flag football offense that really doesn't even know what FBs and HB and TEs really are.

The reason why TAM beat Alabama (well they are only 1-11 against Bama/LSU) is two factors:
1. Bama was not able to deal with Johnny
2. There were left over players from the prior coach on the OL/DL and LBs that knew how to play real football.

That is why he has had zero success since than... its simply not going to work against most of the better defenses.

Not asking because I dislike Sumlin. But having watched our game against them last year.... why do we think he’s a solid hire? If it wasn’t for our eleventy billion turnovers we win that game.

Enlighten me.

1. You're grossly underestimating how talented our team was last year. The hype surrounding the team both internally and externally was real. It was the reason most wanted Lyles gone last year.

2. His ability to recruit and gets the most out of his offensive talent is second to none.

Here is the thing, how do we know Sumlin wants the job.... If we are reaching out to him to gauge his interest.... So far Tee, Lane, and now Les want the job....

I want to see Currie and Haslam burn in this thing... Hope Sumlin turns us down...

If we want 8-5 yearly then have at it. Personally I'd throw the bank at Patterson and Peterson, but only after I bring in Kiffin, Tee and Steele. Morris is a better option imo, though that may have sailed as well.

Are we down to coaches who have just been fired? I remember Vols having pride.

We need to get rid of Currie first, then hire a coach. I don't want that guy making one more call to anybody on behalf of Vols football.

It wasn't that long ago, look it up? Revenue, fan excitement, coaching salaries, and 4 and 5-star recruits were streaming into College Station at the level of a Bama/LSU program.

Do you recall the recent exodus of 3-5-star QBs Kenny Thrill, Kyle Allen, Kyler Murray? Sumlin has more talent at ATM then he could ever expect to duplicate in Knoxville. All part of the windfall that was Johnny Football.

Good coaches get fired and rehired all the time... See Carroll and Saban's mentor in NE.

Hopefully he doesn't take offense to being called this late n the process

If the rumours are true, we could've had Gruden but he wanted total control. Our genius AD wouldn't give it to him. Once in a lifetime coach gone because of our f'd up admin.

I can't believe we're not taking Kiffin over Sumlin. What a mistake.

Many of us have Lane 1, Sumlin 2

There is so much vitriol and uncertainty (by some), about Lane, the Sumlin supporters are willing to pull the trigger because we don't see any movement by Currie and company toward Lane. Bottom line, we don't want to miss out on Sumlin if there is zero chance on Lane.

If someone can provide some evidence that the administration is amenable to Kiffin, please provide it.

We're the only team in the world that offers the better candidates later. Sumlin would be spectacular at this point

If you've watched our coaching search the last 7 days, yes...we are. No top 25 coaches who are still employed are leaving for the UT job, so why not a top25 coach who was just let go? Sometimes things don't work out at one program, but would work well at another program. Sumlin along with a great DC is an excellent hire at this point.
