Where is Kevin Sumlin?

I expect a headline to read something like "Sumlin almost didn't sign with TN because Currie forgot a pen" but I feel like hes a great coach and anytime after a man is fired he's looking to come back and prove them wrong!

I'm excited about this and feel lucky to get a coach of his caliber at this point. He is probably as good as Gundy. I don't know how their records compare but Sumlin has been playing tougher competition and understands the SEC.

Gundy, Kelly, Sumlin... the cat from Missouri, the Texas Tech guy... switch them around and throw them in a bowl... it doesn't matter... same type of football. If you want a few wins in the East, they can probably give you a few of those by year 2 you will start to realize... hey, this doesn't work against the good defenses. Then by year 4... you'll be blaming the defensive coordinator... than by year 5, you'll actually start watching the game and you'll think... maybe this offense isn't so great... by year 6.... you'll be calling for the head coaches job because you just realized you been sold fools gold.

This might be the best possible outcome given the **** show this “search” has been and the fact that the administration won’t do much as speak to Kiffin under any circumstances.

I posted this in another thread (most likely merged).. and I mean it honestly..

Why Sumlin.. sell him to me.

His record (taken from Wikipedia for expediency) shows his situation worsening and worsening.

Why wouldn't you take Sumlin over any of the other coached that have turned us down? Which coach that we've already talked to is any better than Sumlin?

Best offensive mind on board that’s left outside Kiffin. He can recruit, and he’s won big games in SEC West. He needs structure around him from the AD dept, which we don’t have. He also needs help finding a DC, which has been his biggest downfall. He also is an overrated QB coach, but he knows how to find QBs in recruiting. His offense always has great WR play, and they can score in bunches.

Pros:

He’s probably the best reasltic option on the board
Very good recruiter
Won in the sec West
Knows SEC
Offensive coach who’s teams have great WR play usually

Cons:

Must have an elite DC
His teams fall off the map in Oct
Overated QB coach IMO, esp as of late
Possible off the field issues reported (alcohol abuse)- do your own research and see what you think

I would take Kevin Sumlin in a heartbeat and run considering the dog food we've been offered so far! SOLID hire nothing splashy but you get a brand name coach that has gone everywhere he has been !

Hey! At least we wont get him a pay raise if he said no! But I think he respects the tradition at UT. Fair offer I thonks he takes it

Sell me on Sumlin. I mean this honest. I saw what happened at Texas AM, and they are more delusional than most of our guys are... so.. why?

to get a gauge on how sumlin may do at UT, look at his record vs the east and bama.

overall, while at a&m, he was 9-3 against the east (played uf, ut, mz, sc, vandy) and 1-5 vs bama.

that's 10-8 and 56%.

bout the same as mullin was vs the east and bama.

not sure he'd be worth what we'd have to pay him.
not sure how i feel about this truthfully.

EDIT: 3-3 vs Mullen

He will turn it down

Disagree. I think he'd want to turn around and SEC school to make a point. Not to mention we'll pay him a ton...more than he'll get anywhere else IMO based on the jobs that are still available.

Not even close to Gundy, not even close. Any difference in conference is mitigated by Texas AM being a much better job than Oklahoma State.

I really don't understand the enthusiasm for Sumlin on here.

Making it to year six would be a huge step forward.

Manziel beat Saban, the same way that Dobbs almost beat Saban.

Sumlin is a retread who couldn't cut it in the west. This is utterly pathetic. If we're going to go after a fired SECW coach, hire Miles.
