Where does the rest of the SEC view us in the pecking order?

There are some stats that if I threw them out there, it’s not pretty.

its been 20 years since Tennessee has been in a major bowl. 30 years since its last Sugar Bowl.
The two ugliest I know:

Our last win over a top 10 team was in 2006 against Georgia. Since that game, Tennessee has lost 36 games in a row to top 10 teams. Not even Kentucky has a streak that long (they beat #10 South Carolina in 2010).
Tennessee is 5-23 in the 3:30 CBS game since Fulmer was fired.

Actually 21 years. The 1999 Fiesta Bowl. Citrus Bowl isn't major. Cotton had lost its major status as well until the advent of the playoff

Pruitt’s 3rd year at Tennessee see’s the Vols among the worst teams in the SEC
The Vols are definitely headed in the wrong direction

Who cares what the rest of the SEC thinks? They are the enemy. I am more concerned with how the team views themselves.

So you reordered the top 5 and bottom 8 only to have TN stay at 6? Going back to the 70s didn’t change TN’s ranking, so I don’t really catch your point on this one.
The point is recruiting demographics turned against us long before 1992, outside of the great run from 89 to 01', we've rarely been elite in the other years since 1970, 71, 72, 85, 87 and arguably 04 and 07 would qualify since we at least won our division those years.

I'd say bottom third of the SEC. A once proud program with some great history that has fallen on hard times. Capable of putting it together on game day and giving quality teams a scare but likely won't.

We're middle of the pack SEC now. We have no right to complain about lack of respect or that we're made fun of or any of that anymore. We've earned being pretty much meh.

Bottom 5 at best?

We may jump up to smack dab in the middle but I doubt we are seen any higher. It’s hard to be respected showing no fight against rivals, getting beat by UK, constantly rotating bad coaches, and resting on past success.

Want respect? Win 10+ games every year in the regular season.

I don't think Tennessee is feared, but I know that the long time SEC fan bases keep Tennessee under observation because they know what is possible here and they are enjoying our slump, but deep down they know that there is too much money invested for it to last forever.

With our run of poor decision we are due at some point to make good ones if only by accident at some point.

Ah, the old " a blind hog finds an acorn every now and then."
A classic truism, and so appropriate.
It does seem that if anything good goes the Vol's way, it is by accident not design.

The only thing I'm sure of is that we are below Alabama, Georgia, Kentucky and until they're beaten, Florida.

Please recheck that and report back.
No way can I believe we have a winning record.
The smell outa Knoxville has been intense.

It's correct. Including the 5 games of the current SEC season, Tennessee is 72-71 overall since 2009.

In conference play, Tennessee is 32-61 in SEC play since 2009 if this season's games are included.

In other words Garbage would describe Tennessee since 2009

South Carolina was ranked 9th in coaches poll when we beat them in 2013 and ended the year ranked 4th. What’s your definition of “a top ten team”? Mine clearly has the 2013 Gamecocks as a “top ten team”.

I'm sorry. I did not doubt you I was just making a bad joke.
However , the SEC record... we stink.

From the LSU fans I know, TN football is irrelevant or if discussed, a pitiful football program but a great place to visit.

Ouch. That SEC record is one I didn’t need to be reminded of.

I was going off the AP Poll ranking at the time we played them.
